You woke up with a sore through, stuffy nose, a headache, and realized you didn’t have any medicine in your house. Nothing. Not even a cough drop. You slumped in bed with some tea but it wasn’t enough. As the day progressed, you used up the last of your tissues, and realized you were going to need some help. You hated to do this to him, but you called your neighbor and best guy-friend.

“Hey Skinns,” you said groggily into the phone. “I hate to bother you, but can you buy me some tissues and Nyquil? I’ll buy you a beer, when I’m better.”

“What’s wrong Y/N?” He asked. “Are you sick? I’ll be right over.”

“No! Don’t come over! I don’t want you to get sick. Just leave it outside my door and I’ll get it.”

“I don’t care if you’re sick, I’m coming over. You’re obviously delusional or something, do you have a fever?” He sounded worried, or maybe you were delusional after all, but at this point you didn’t care.

“I’ll leave the door unlocked, I’m going back to bed. And Jeff?”

“Yeah?”

“Thanks.” You hung up the phone and crawled into bed, instantly falling back to sleep.

After some weird dreams and fitful sleep, you woke up to a hand on your forehead.

“Y/N, you are hot,” he said and you blinked your eyes open enough to see his face. He looked worried, more worried than you’d ever seen him.

“You’re pretty hot too, Skinns,” you teased, and he shot you a look.

“I can’t give you this if you have a fever,” he held up a bottle of Nyquil and you tried to snatch it out of his hands.

“How about I take you to the doctor, okay?” He said.

“No, I’m fine,” you curled up in bed, realizing that for the first time he was sitting on your bed and you were just wearing pajama shorts and a thin t-shirt. Jeff had never been in your room before, and this wasn’t exactly how you imagined it happening (and yes, that was definitely something you had imagined).

“How about I give you something for your fever, and I’ll check in with you later, okay?” He said and opened a bottle of pills for you, handing you some and a glass of water.

You nodded and took the pills, and tried to fall back asleep after he left.

You woke up hours later; your head felt better, but you still had a sore throat. It was dark, but there was a light coming from your living room. You carefully walked down the hall from your bedroom to the living room, and found Jeff sitting on your couch flipping through channels on your tv.

“Is your tv broken, Skinns?” You teased and sat down next to him.

“Sorry, I was waiting for you to wake up,” he muted the tv and set the remote down.

“You didn’t have to wait for me. You must be tired; didn’t you have a game tonight?”

“Yeah, we lost, but I wanted to make sure you were okay,” he sounded sad, but he still smiled when he turned to face you.

“Thanks, you didn’t have to do that. I am feeling much better, thank you. You’ve been so kind to me, I don’t know how I could make it up to you,” you smiled back at him. “You’re always so nice to me.”

“Don’t worry about it,” he blushed. “The truth is,” he paused and swallowed. “Y/N, I love you. I always have. But you were dating that guy, and then you were getting over a tough breakup, it never seemed like the right time. But now…”

“Jeff,” you stopped him. “I would kiss you, but I don’t want to get you sick.”

He laughed, and smiled that cute smile, with that dimple you always loved.
