Daylight (52)

"Impake na tayo?" I asked when we let go of our hug.

Tumango siya bago ngumiti sa akin ng tipid. I wiped the remaining tears in her eyes using the back of my hand before I sat down next to her on the couch. I tilted my body so that I could look directly at her face.

"Okay ka na ba?" I asked, still a bit worried.

"Okay naman na."

"How was your sleep?"

"Okay lang. Ikaw? Natulog ka ba?"

I shook my head. "I just watched a documentary."

Medyo nanlaki ang mata niya.

"Hala. Matulog ka na. May pasok pa tayo bukas..."

"Mag-i-impake pa tayo," I said.

"Pero wala ka nang tulog..." She looked really worried. Her voice was so soft.

"It's okay. Isang gabi lang naman. Matutulog nalang ako sa biyahe."

She was still worried but she managed to put on a cute smile. "Ikaw... sige..."

We stared at each other for I don't know how long, until she kissed me light on the lips. I closed my eyes for a second before looking back at her.

"Let's not fight like that anymore, Yan," I said seriously. She bowed her head for a second before she nodded. I kissed her forehead for about three seconds before locking my eyes with her again.

"I still have one question left, though," I added. I needed to ask this. It will haunt me if I didn't.

"What is it?"

"Why is it that you didn't tell me about your encounter with Zarek when I asked you on about how your day went?" I sounded really jealous and clingy but I didn't care. I was willing to show Yanisa all of me anyway, even this part of me.

"I'm sorry," she started. "Alam ko kasing maba-badtrip ka lang. Ayoko lang na maging issue pa 'yun."

I nodded. And then I pursed my lips.

"I understand. Thank you sa pag-intindi sa mararamdaman ko. Pero Yan, next time, sabihin natin lahat sa isa't-isa, okay?" I said.

"K-Kahit maba-badtrip ka?"

I nodded again.

"I will also adjust. Para hindi mo na maisip 'yan. Para nakakapag-share ka lang sa akin na wala kang iniisip na 'baka ganito... baka ganyan...' Aayusin ko rin ang sarili ko," I said.

"A-Ash... Sorry..."

"Sssh. It was all a misunderstanding. And we could always avoid it if we listen to each other."

Tinignan lang niya ako gamit ang mga nagtatanong na mga mata kaya nagpatuloy lang ako.

"Yan, marami pa tayong pagdadaanan na ganito. After all, hindi tayo magkasabay na lumaki. Magkaiba tayo ng mundong ginagalawan. There will always be differences that will show up along the way that would cause a fight or misunderstanding.—

"It's just a matter of how we handle it, how we talk about it, and how we learn how to forgive each other and accept our mistakes.—

"Now, promise me, walang susuko," I said.

"Promise, Ash."

"Kahit gaano kahirap. Kahit gaano kasakit. Kahit gaano kabigat," she added. Her voice was cracking.
