Midnight (4)

Zombie.

That is the exact definition of how I look like right now. And mind you, I am already here at school, teaching my last subject.

As usual, hindi ako nakatulog ng maayos. Sino ba namang makakatulog knowing na yung anonymous mong caller from the Philippines kagabi, alam ang full name mo.

I honestly can't think of any reason on why he knows my name, unless he's a stalker. But why would he stalk me? I am nobody. Fine, I was once rich when my mom and dad were still together, rich and quite famous – you may say, but not now. Not anymore.

I called him up so many times after he hung up on me last midnight, but, he never answered. Nakatulog na ba siya agad? Impossible. For sure, natatawa siya sa ginawa niya. For sure, alam niyang magugulat ako sa last words niya. He's playing with me! And here I am, all this time, thinking the second voice was the good guy!

Too much for thinking na siya yung nag-save sa akin from his prank caller friend. Turns out, prank caller din pala siya.

*wisiwisiwisiwisish*

Oh shit!

Damn this. Sometimes, I really regret choosing early education as my major.

Inihian lang naman ako ng student ko.

"May khru, puochi," he said. It means nagpapaalam siyang naiihi siya. Little did he know, nakaihi na siya.

Nakiusap din ako sa isa kong co-teacher na bantayan muna yung kids ko hanggang dismissal time, nanunuod lang naman sila ng Lion King and then after that, their parents will pick them up na. After she agreed, I hurriedly went to the bathroom to change my clothes.

Buti nalang lagi akong may extrang damit sa aking drawer sa faculty room. I changed to my pink fitted t-shirt at black yoga pants. I braided my hair into two sides and slightly fixed my bangs.

He looked at me from head to toe and then he smiled. If I was my previous self, I would think na chine-check-out ako ni Paul. But, I know for a fact na alam lang ni Paul na either naihian ako, o nataehan nanaman. It's a normal thing when you're a kindergarten teacher.

Here in Thailand, I learned not to assume anything. Kasi you'll just end up hurting yourself.

"Ihi? O tae?" He started talking to me.

"Ihi lang," natatawa kong sagot.

"Haha! Buti naman. How did your day go?"

"Aside from the peeing, it's quite okay. And you?"

"All good, sort of," he answered. "I like your braids. You look beautiful," he added.

"Sort of?" pag-uulit ko.

"Yeah. It means okay lang. Ito naman."

Silence...

"Oh. Okay," I concluded.

I know he's not telling me something. We've been best friends for years and I know him too much. He is always like that kapag may secret siya. And I know na hindi ko din kayang pigain siya na sabihin sa akin kung ano yun. He's so secretive. But that's one of the reasons why I like him. Weird, isn't it? Type ko siguro yung mga mysterious.
