I sat on the edge of my bed and reached for my phone charger. I had a text from Alex asking for my flight information. I sent her the information and put my phone to charge. My phone lit up and vibrated as I got a notification from my mom. She was asking if I could go to the study room. I locked the screen and pushed my hair back as I listened to Corey's deep breathing. I carefully stood up and made my way out of my room. I smiled at Jojo and picked him up before making my way down the stairs.
"Are you still avoiding Corey?" I asked him.
He whined as I scratched his head. I made my way to the hallway downstairs and opened the door to the study room. I set Jojo down and smiled as he made his way over to dad.
"Is he still avoiding Corey?"
"Yup" I said closing the door.
Mom smiled at me.
"Honey, take a seat"
She patted the spot next to her and looked at my dad who stood up.
"You guys do know what time it is" I noted as I sat down next to my mom.
Dad chuckled and pulled a chair up in front of me.
"Katalina, you've stayed up much later than this"
"True" I said.
Mom laughed and turned to me.
"Did you finish your genetics homework?"
"Yeah, that class is kicking my butt" I confessed.
Mom smiled and squeezed my shoulder.
"You're almost done"
I laughed and looked down at my hands.
"I've still got Grad School" I told her.
"Babysteps honey"
I nodded and looked at her.
"Do you have work tomorrow?" I asked her.
She nodded.
"Yes, but it's a consult and it's until 3PM"
I looked at my dad who smiled.
"I'm taking you and Corey to the airport"
I nodded and bit my lips.
"So.... why am I here?" I asked.
Mom cleared her throat.
"Your father and I were talking"
"About?" I asked.
She smiled and looked at my dad who sat up straight.
"Corey and I were talking after dinner"
I nodded slowly.
"And I mentioned that you had made your decision to go to USC"
He cleared his throat.
"We started talking and eventually he asked me"
"If I could move in with him" I finished.
Dad nodded and looked at mom.
"He said the chances of me saying yes were slim, but I told him that your mom and I would talk and figure it out"
I nodded.
"Katalina, what do you want?"
I looked at my dad when I felt his hand on my knee.
"We have decided that you are responsible enough to decide what you want to do"
"What?" I asked.
Mom rubbed my shoulder.
"Do you want to live with Corey?"
I looked at her and then at my dad"
"No" I admitted.
Dad looked at me a bit surprised.
"I think we're too young" I told them.
I shook my head.
"You guys didn't live with each other until your wedding day, and the only reason you're even letting Martin and Alex live with each other is because they're getting married" I said.
I pushed my hair back.
"I love him mom and dad, but I'm not ready for that" I said.
Dad stood up and pushed his hair back.
"I'm not ready to move out and I don't want to hurt his feelings by telling him that" I told them.
I looked at mom who nodded and rubbed my back.
"I like that I can go over and spend the night with him, and that he can come here. This relationship is serious, but I'm not ready for that yet" I said.
I looked at my dad who was crying.
"We will talk to Corey"
I looked at my dad who nodded and rubbed his face.
"Don't worry honey, I'll deal with it"
I nodded and looked at mom who rubbed my arm.
"Go on to bed honey"
She kissed my cheek and I stood up.
"Good night" I told them.
I looked at dad who smiled at me.
"I'll talk with Corey after the trip"
I nodded and he pulled me into a tight hug.
"Go and have fun in San Jose"
He kissed my forehead and rubbed my shoulders.
"Go to bed"
I nodded and left the room. I made my way upstairs and into my room. I sat on the edge of the bed and reached for my phone. I made sure the alarm was set before I lied down. I did not sleep at all that night.
