I laughed and pulled out my waterbottle out of my dufflebag.
"Aww I love this picture!"
I had uploaded a picture of Veronica and I after practice. One of our teammates had captured this beautiful moment. We were in the process of our highfive hug. It was captioned "Looks like summer is over and I have to trade in my flip-flops for some soccer cleats. First day of conditioning is out of the books"
"When are you moving in? I miss pestering you"
I set my dufflebag on the grass.
"Second week of September" I told Veronica who was sitting down in front of me.
I sat down next to her and watched as the freshmen put away the gear.
"You guys did great!" I called out.
Vero and I smiled and waved at our young teammates as they walked away from us.
"Let me braid your hair"
I shrugged and ran my hand through my still damp hair. I was the first one in the shower since I had mud all over my legs. Practice had been fun, and I'm sure I would have bruises to prove how fun it was.
"What are you doing this weekend?" I asked her.
She reached for my waterbottle and looked at me.
"Nothing, I'll probably binge watch a show on Netflix"
I nodded.
"Come home with me, you know my mom doesn't mind company" I said.
She took a gulp of my water and nodded.
"Does Jac work this weekend?"
I shook my head and she grinned.
"Fuck yeah I want to go home with you"
She placed my water bottle in my dufflebag.
"We should go on a hike tomorrow"
I nodded and she began braiding my hair.
"Is your boyfriend in town?"
"Nope, he's on a roadtrip" I said.
She huffed lightly and continued braiding my hair.
"You know Liv and Jac have met him and I have not"
"You were the first to see him" I pointed out.
I handed her my hairband and she laughed
"I was too drunk to meet him that day!"
She patted my shoulder and I looked at her.
"Let's go get your clothes and head out" I said.
She nodded and smiled.
"Can we go to your car instead? My legs can't handle that walk"
I laughed and nodded.
"Yeah, come on let's go" I said.
I got up and grabbed my dufflebag.
"How are the twins?"
I nodded.
"Only Nate is home right now, Maia moved into her dorm on Thursday" I said.
She looked at me.
"Those two are so smart"
They were on full athletic scholarships, but they could have easily received an academic scholarship. Maia was Valedictorian and Nate was Saluditorian of their high school graduating class.
"I love Nate, he makes me feel pretty"
Nate was a flirt but he knew his boundaries.
"I'll invite him to the hike" I said.
She nodded.
"Please do, he's nice to talk to...and he's not hard to look at"
