Katalina's POV- June 2016

"You know I can help with something, right?" I asked.

My dad just smiled and went back to making his famous Raspberry Lemonade. I turned to look at Martin who made his way into the kitchen. My mom stepped back and let him take the platter of the food that had been prepped for him to grill. He looked at me and smiled.

"Martin, take Katalina out with you"

He laughed as I frowned at my mom.

"I want to help" I told him.

He smiled.

"You helped yesterday, and today is your birthday. You can keep me company"

I sighed and followed him out to the backyard.

"Did you get your final grades?"

I nodded.

"How'd you do?"

"I did well" I noted.

I was not a straight A student but I was pretty darn close. I had been close to the 4.0 this quarter; it's a shame it didn't happen.

"I figured, Ale tells me you are incredibly smart and talented"

I smiled and shrugged at him. He smiled and began putting the ribs onto the grill.

"I forgot to thank you last night"

"For?" I asked as he placed the last bit of ribs on the grill.

He closed the grill and turned to me.

"You probably wanted to spend your day with your boyfriend or even your friends, and instead you're here"

I smiled.

"I don't really have a lot of friends" I noted.

It's true, I could easily count the amount of close friends I had with both hands.

"Mike and David went camping with Pat, and I was invited. I chose not to go because I like plumbing and the in doors" I said.

He laughed.

"They are not your only friends"

I nodded.

"Jaclyn is in Mexico right now with her parents" I told him.

He nodded.

"What about your college roommates?"

"They don't live in California" I said.

He smiled.

"You could have stayed home and spent some alone time with your boyfriend"

I laughed.

"I like spending time with my family" I told him.

He hummed.

"You looked bored last night"

I had been incredibly bored, but he didn't need to know that.

"Thank you, accept it"

I laughed and watched as he flipped the ribs,

"How exactly does your boyfriend know Mike?"

"They played at the Pan American games for Team USA back in 2010, and then they were drafted the same year" I told him.

"What's his name again?"

"Corey" I said.

He nodded.

"How did Corey find out you were friends with Mike?"

"Through Maddy" I said.

He smiled and nodded.

"Duh, she works for the Dodgers"

I nodded and he patted his pockets.

"I have something for you"

He pulled out an envelope and handed it to me. I began shaking my head and he placed it on my lap.

"You didn't have to get me anything" I said.

He smiled.

"I know, I wanted to"

I looked at the enveloped and he chuckled.

"Come on, open it"

I opened the envelope and pulled out two tickets. I turned them around and my eyes widened when I saw what they were. They were two tickets to the US Women's gymnastics Olympic trials.

"They were sold out" I told him.

He smiled.

"I pulled some strings when Alex told me you weren't able to get any"

I nodded and set them on the table as I stood up.

"Thank you" I told him.

He accepted my hug and I froze when I heard an accordion begin to be played. My brother could play an accordion but not as well as David. I turned around and smiled when I saw Mike and David standing there next to my family.
