When Viktoria was suggested to be, “like a mother” to Hanni Levy, Hanni was quick to correct, “no, she was not 'like' my mother, she was my mother.” Years earlier in a brave and somewhat foolish decision made in desperation and fear, Hanni approached Viktoria Kolzer, a movie theater cashier for help. At that point Hanni was alone in the world with no where to go and no one she could trust. She took a leap of faith that Viktoria would act according to her values with courage, and approached her. Hanni's leap of faith proved to be a wise choice. Not only was Hanni, (a jew in Nazi Germany, who's real name was Hanna Weissenberg) able to successfully evade the Nazis with the help of frau Kolzer, a special bond between her and Viktoria was formed, a bond that lasted a lifetime. When faced with decisions requiring mettle in the face of adversity, let's try to remember stories like Hanni's and what could have happened to her if Viktoria had not acted with courage on what she knew to be right. We're all afraid of something. Whether's its approaching someone for help, or offering our assistance to a stranger. But the faith that God is with us can develop courage and mettle within us that can destroy all the obstacles created by fear. Sometimes those obstacles are real and dangerous. However, remember what the apostle Paul asked in Romans 8:31 “If God be for us, who can be against us?” And that doesn't mean danger will never come upon us or effect us. But that dangers and trials are trivial compared to the love of God. And when something is trivialized, it holds no power. In Romans 8 Paul went on to say in verses 38 and 39, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,neither the present nor the future,nor any powers,neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” So I guess we're back to that same old, but never tired cliché, “Love conquers all.”
