Chapter Fifty Two

After what felt to be a lifetime of making up, we decided on eating the dinner I had cooked hours ago.

"Are you okay?" Will asked as I poked around at my food. "You're really quiet and you look worried."

"Will, you love me right? Like you really love me?"

"Yeah Jasmine. I told you this over a hundred times in the past two hours alone."

"But I mean, no matter what, it's something that'll never change right?"

"Right Jas, your scaring me. What's going on?"

"And Summer, if anything were to go wrong between us, you wouldn't punish her for that?"

"No. Jasmine, what's the matter?"

"There's something I need to tell you and I'm not sure how you're gonna react."

"Are you pregnant?"

"Oh God no!" I yelled out as he let go of the breath he was holding.

"Then what is it?"

"Promise me Will that this won't change a thing between us."

"Start talking Jasmine." He said his voice stern.

"Did I ever tell you the real reason I moved here?"

"No, you never told me at all. I don't remember ever asking you."

"Everything Charlotte said was the truth."

"What?" He asked confusion washing over his face.

"Just let me explain everything to you first before you say anything. My father was a good man in the beginning but he had a slight drinking problem. Some things happened and my brother ended up moving out here with my grandparents. That devastated my dad because his son was his everything. Me and my mother became nothing to him. He would hit us and throw things at us. Treat us all kinds of bad. My mom usually got the worst of the beatings, especially after he lost his job due to his drinking habit. He started forcing my mom to sell her body, persuading her it was the right thing to do and she did it." I said beginning to feel my eyes moisten as I looked at Will. He was angry but I could see a bit of understanding on his face. I continued with the story.

"Not too long after that, men started telling him that my mom was no longer good enough or that she wasn't cooperative or too beat up to participate. That's when they started to want me. I was still a virgin but not for long. He took my innocence from me. Told me it was the right thing to do if I loved my parents. Promised me the world in exchange for my services. As I got older, I smartened up. I demanded a cut from whatever it was he was paid. I figured if I could save up enough money, I'd be able to get my mom and myself out of that situation. But she was so afraid when I told her the plan. She said I was crazy and that she wasn't gonna risk her life trying to run. So when I got the opportunity, I did. I left. I came here and was able to get a fresh start." I said picking my head up and looking at him. He was crying but was full of anger. It practically was pouring from out of his pores. I took his silence as a sign for me to continue so I did.

"That day I met Sammie and she told me about coming down to her job for an interview, I never thought of it turning out the way it did. I didn't expect you to be so handsome and funny and full of life. You were willing to give me a chance even though I was young and had no experience what so ever. The way you looked at me, I never would've pictured us coming this far. Us having a child together who I would die for. I never imagined being loved by you and so many people who surrounded me. I thought I lost you. I thought I lost out on the chance to tell you the truth about me. I thought I lost out on the chance to tell you how I really felt. How I hated you for what you did to me but I loved you so much at the same time. And here we are, having this conversation. I just hope that this doesn't change anything between us." I said as he shook his head.
