"I know."

My siblings looked at each other uneasily. Elizabeth was the first to speak. "Y/N, be careful." I blinked and looked at her. She understands, the want and need to accompany a loved one in danger.

I nodded once and looked to Angelica. Concern, understanding, confusion. All in a single gaze from her. "When?" She asked, her voice steady. "When what?" Cornelia asked.

We all turned to the youngest girls. "Nothing just yet." Margarita said sadly. Catharine and Cornelia looked at each other. They just shrugged before everyone faced me again, my stare locked onto Angelica.

"I'm not sure. Soon." I said in half promise. She nodded solemnly before the front door opened. Mother shuffled in and I wiped away my tears quickly, smoothing my hair into place. She faced us and smiled.

"Hello!" She chimed. I stood and walked over to her, Angelica handing me the notes. "Read." I said, handing both to my mother. She gives me a strange look before looking at the papers. I take a small step back.

We all watched carefully as several emotions cross our mother's face. "Oh my God." She breathed, a hand drifting to her mouth in shock. Finally, her stare met mine. "Are you alright?!" She asked, immediately inspecting me.

"Yes, I'm fine. I thought all of you were attacked to be honest." I said quietly, looking away. "Oh Y/N!" She said, hugging me. I wrapped my arms around her and breathed in her smell. Apple trees and lavender. So similar to Angelica's, which was oranges and lavender.

She stroked my hair and I sighed. "I'll be alright." I promised. She finally let go and I gave her a sad smile.

The rest of the day was so quiet. Everyone was careful with me, my siblings giving me worried looks. After awhile, I had enough. Since dinner was half an hour away, I called Alana upstairs.

Alana squealed with joy as I shut the door. She lived for helping people. If only it wasn't for such a cruel cause. "I'm being given so many chores lately!" She cheered. Her gaze met mine and she immediately calmed.

"What did you do." She asked warningly. I chuckled and shook my head. "Nothing yet. But I need your discretion." I said. She nodded, hand over her heart. "I swear it." She said quietly. I nodded. "I'm running away."

Alana choked and fell back onto the bed. "You bloody idiot." She reprimanded. I rolled my eyes. "Just to Boston." I explained. Her eyes widened. "That's absurd Y/N! Boston is practically closed off! And not to mention the Tea Party and the Boston Massacre!" She said fearfully.

Yes, I'll admit there are sizable risks. "The Boston Massacre was ten years ago Alana." I said boredly. She clicked her tongue. "Do you free people get bored and decide to almost die at every chance?" She asked jokingly. I gave her a sarcastic laugh.

She crossed her dark arms. "So what do you need me for?" She asked. She knew exactly what. Realization hit her and she shook her head.

Alana ran away when she was thirteen. She literally hopped on a ship from England to the colonies to escape her former master. She told me last year.

"Alana, please! You know the risks more than anyone! You know what to avoid and who!" I pleaded. She shook her head and stood, walking to the door. "Alana, please!" I begged. She paused, hand on the knob. "Is that a direct order?" She whispered softly, too calmly.

I inhaled sharply. "No, it's not. It's an ask from a friend." I responded. She glanced at me and sighed. "Let me think about it, 'kay?" She asked. I nodded and she turned the knob. "Thank you Alana. For considering." I said quickly. She gave me a small smile and nodded. "Anything for a friend." She said before leaving.

I sighed and looked around. I needed to do something. Anything. I ran to my drawers and started packing. I planned on leaving within the week. I grabbed a bag I bought years ago and started putting dresses and nightgowns in. I needed man clothes. I tossed my brush in before sneaking out of my room.

I rushed to John's room since he was tall as me. I knocked and the door opened. "Oh, hey Y/N." He said, letting me in.

I ran to his closet and opened it. "John, listen." I said as I grabbed random, matching clothes. "Don't you tell any of the siblings or mother, promise?" I asked. I heard him mumbled a promise and I faced him, four outfits in my arms.

"I'm leaving within the week. I need man clothes." I said quietly, carefully. His eyes widened and darkened. "W-What?"

I sighed and set the clothes down, walking to him. I joined our hands. "I'll be back within a month tops. I'll write everyday under the name Mary Eleanor." I promised. I wiped a tear that escaped his dark eyes.

He sniffled and nodded. I opened my arms and he ran to me, hugging me tightly. He nestled his head against me and I hugged him tightly.

He started crying and I felt my heart twist. I smoothed his dark hair and sighed. "I'll be alright Johnny boy. I swear it." I whispered. He nodded and let go, stepping back. He wiped his tears with the heel of his palm and sighed.

I picked up the clothes and kissed his forehead before leaving to my room. I stuffed the clothes in and sighed. This was going to be difficult.
