"And all for a downworlder." Maryse said, looking at Alec with such disappointment in her eyes. She turned to leave, and Alec surprised everyone by speaking up.
"No." Alec said firmly, stopping Maryse. "I didn't do this for some downworlder. I didn't do this to disappoint you, to bring dishonour and shame to the Lightwood name. There isn't anything i can do to bring honour back to the name you both ruined. I did this for me. I did this because i was so tired of feeling unworthy, i was so tired of feeling that nobody could ever love me because i was 'wrong'. I didn't do this to embarrass you, i did this so i could stop hating myself." Alec was glaring, ignoring the eyes of everyone around him firmly on him. Magnus was visibly surprised, and his parents were both staring at him, stunned. "Now, we have a criminal to catch."
