It all went down like something a rapture.

A sudden realization.

A quick pain.

Widened eyes and seconds of shock.

Messages were sent out.

Tomisin Adekunle received the first one.
Vanessa Dipo received the second one.
And Kayla Williams received the third.

Then suddenly the feeling rapture dissipated and everything moved just like in a race.

Kayla despite her feelings called up Tomisin.
She called him and screamed.
"Sam!"

A cold and panicked Tomisin had already jumped in a car and was racing towards his best friends house.
His heart in his throat.
And guilt a demon in his chest.

Vanessa couldn't think, couldn't hear , couldn't breathe and the Uber ride to Samuels house was the longest drive she had ever experienced.

On reaching his house, she rushed out of the car not even bothering to check if driver had ended the trip.
She pushed through the gate that had already been opened up.
The house was eerily quiet, scarily so.
But Nessa felt at peace.

If he was dead, wouldn't people be crowded here?
These were here thoughts as she stepped through the large house.
She ran through the living room and up the stairs, bursting through his room like a mad woman.

Like a woman in love.

Her eyes widened when she saw him, saw Tomisin shouting at the security guard.
"Where is he?" Tomisin screamed at the poor man.
Tomisin looked at her in surprise, "Nessa what are you doing here?"
Nessa looked around and realized that Sam was not here.
Nessa's eyes blurred as the pain and the knowing crept in.
She slowly turned around and walked down the stairs.
She made her way outside the large compound and round the large house till she got to the clearing at the extreme end of the house.

She stepped slowly beside the beautiful floral arrangements that seemed to guide her to the destination.
The place where his mother was buried.

And so when she finally got to beautiful granite tombstone, a testament of their wealth, and saw his pale body lying the on the tomb.

Nessa let the tears fall.

Let her heart well and truly break.

Let her body fall on top his in a cry that was soulful, painful and mournful.

She rested her head on his body.

And she screamed.
She screamed in anger.
She screamed in pain.
She screamed in fear.

And when her voice had grown tired and weary she hit his chest.
Hit.
Hit.
Hit.

Till the blows came raining down.

She pounded on his chest in anger, "How fucking dare you?! You Bastard! Who the fuck do you think you are? Who...who...."

Someone touched her shoulder, and she looked back and stared into Tomisin's red pained eyes.

Nessa looked at Tomisin and shook her head, "Tomi..." she started.

Tomi nodded at her, "the ambulance is here...to take him."
Nessa moved back from his body, and watched the men hurriedly carry him onto the stretcher and load him onto the ambulance.

Somebody needed to follow Sam, so Tomi volunteered.
But Nessa was content to sit on the tomb till she received some kind....any kind of news.

And as she waited, she continued to weep.
And as she remembered his message, her tears grew in intensity.
So much that she began to feel faint.

She wrapped her arms around herself and let her mind take her way back.
Back to when they were together.

God the way he used to smile at her, touch her and kiss her.

He made everything feel okay.
No matter how he messed up, he made her feel okay.
She knew that she shouldn't jump to conclusions.
Knew that he could still survive this.

However, a part of her knew...knew that she had lost him.

And so buried she her face in her hands.

And Vanessa wept.

Later on when her phone light came on signaling a call.
Nessa picked it up and remained silent as she received the news.
When all that needed to be said had been said.

She slowly stood up and brushed the dirt from her clothes.

And slowly she walked away from the tombstone.

A memory came to her head.
One of romantic bliss and loving touches.
Nessa's head rested on his warm chest.
His fingers were  curled up in her hair.
His silence was a comfort as she nestled against his form.
"What are you thinking?" She asked.
He chuckled , "you don't want to know."
"Tell me." She insisted.
He tugged on her hair playfully, "so demanding."
He was silent for a while, then his voice rang out clear as a bell, "I hope I take my last breath on my mother's grave."
Nessa sat up immediately and looked back  at Sam.
"Why would you say that?" She snapped at him.
He didn't say anything, but stared at her with dark and pained eyes.
When did his eyes become so painful to look at.
When did his eyes become so dark and hard to decipher?
"Why would you say that?" She asked but softer this time.
He looked at her and smiled, "you're very beautiful Vanessa, very bright and beautiful. You make me forget some of my deepest darkest parts."
Nessa even felt more confused, "what deepest parts, Sam..."
He suddenly leaned up and kissed her.
Kissed her like he had never before, it was so sweet...so tender ...so sad.
"Will you miss me?" He whispered
And when he leaned back, she could have sworn she saw moisture in his eyes.
But then he blinked, and it was back to the Sam she recognized.
"Sam what was that all about?" Nessa stubbornly asked.
Sam looked at her and then shook his head, "Nothing, I'm just feeling melancholic cause of the cancer thing."
She sighed and laid back in his arms, "don't worry Sam, I'll always be here. You will fight this."

The sound of a car horn jolted her out of her memories.
Nessa looked up and realized someone had driven into the house.

She didn't bother to check who it was, instead she made her way out of his house.

And tried to find her way home.

Nessa
I don't know why I'm typing this to you.
I don't know why I care to.
But I do...care about you.
I know I messed up and hurt you.
But I want you to know I care.
In a simpler world, it would have been you...it should have been you.
I swear to God, I wanted it to be you.
But no matter how hard I tried....I just couldn't bring myself to love you the way you deserved.
Maybe eventually I could have.
But I'm impatient and a sucker for pain.
I wanted the one I couldn't have.
I hope you meet someone ...truly deserving of your love.  Stop wasting it on me Vanessa.
You're very bright and beautiful.
I love you for that.
Wow. Guess it took death for me to realize that.
I love you.
Not the way you deserve to be but just enough to make me regret how I treated you.
I'm sorry.
I wish you never met me
Still.
Will you miss me?
