You had been traveling with your brother Aragorn, both of you Rangers, for nearly as long as you could remember. He was always the leader of you two, and so when he decided to assist a group of hobbits travel all the way to the elven kingdom of Rivendell, you pledged to protect them with your life- and so you did. When your camp settled in a cave on Weathertop was attacked by the Nazgûl, you drew your blade and fended every one of them off, keeping the hobbits safe behind you even as you were struck by many potentially fatal blows. You survived, thankfully, and Meriadoc Brandybuck never forgot how you nearly sacrificed yourself for four near strangers, soon coming to admire you in ways of the heart for it.
