A Few Weeks Later...

Austin's POV

In the days that ensued from the fight in the Academy, New Haven changed. The Academy opened back up for the public, bringing in returning students as well as a new generation of faunus students. In honor of their valiant  efforts, the citizens of Menagerie were given the opportunity to live among the people of New Haven. Though many took the opportunity, some of them, like Ghira and Kali, decided to return home. With nowhere to return to, Ilia stayed with us in New Haven. With an agreement between Jaune, Nora, Ren, and Ilia herself, she became the new fourth member of team JNPR.

General Ironwood and his army in Atlas assisted New Haven in rebuilding the community, placing several guard posts as well as a massive concrete wall around the borders of the mountainous town. In doing so, Oscar/Ozpin and Qrow left with them back to Atlas with the relic, making absolute sure that it was in good and secure hands.

Cayde-6 and the other Guardians were called upon by the Vanguard to return home, due to a crisis with the Fallen in the Reef. With no other choice, they left with the promise to return to Remnant in time. Knowing Cayde, he'd probably just sneak out like a troubled teenager. Luckily the Guardians with him are aware of this. With Lionheart presumably killed by the very same people he worked for, Lord Saladin and Lady Efrideet stayed here in New Haven, the former taking on the responsibility of Headmaster of New Haven Academy, with the latter by his side. The two resided within the Academy itself, both learning about Remnant while training students of both Grimm and the Hive that threatened the planet. Team RWBY and the others went on to relive their Beacon days at the Academy, living their life to the fullest with one another at each other's side.

As for myself, I stayed in New Haven with the others. Part of the time, I'd assist Lord Saladin with training the students in combat and teaching them about the Hive, though sometimes he'd throw me into the mix. The rest of the time, I became a student again, reliving the time at Beacon with Yang and the others. Whether the place changed for the better or for the worse, it was hard to tell.

Outside the walls of New Haven, in a area of open fields, a new batch of potential students waited as Lord Saladin spoke to them, team RWBY, team JNPR, and I stood beside him in a singular line.

Saladin: You've come to this Academy to learn, to seek the knowledge to protect those you care most in this cruel and unforgiving world. As of right now, none of you are students of this Academy, but that changes today in the forest behind me. Welcome to initiation.

he students whispered to one another as I spoke.

Austin: Depending on how well you perform, you will be divided into teams of four accordingly.

Ghost: That's not how it went in Beacon.

Yeah but the way Oz did it was stupid.

Saladin: You will all proceed to the wilderness behind me. You will find an abandoned temple along the way containing several relics. Each of you will gather a relic and make your way back here. You will encounter Grimm along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy them.

Student: What about this 'Hive' we've been hearing about?

Saladin: You will not be dealing with them yet. These guys will be assigned to dispatch them during initiation. They will not assist you with any Grimm until it is absolutely needed, to ensure no one dies.

He motioned us to enter the woods and did just that, dividing into three groups: Ruby, Weiss, Ren, and Nora; Yang, Jaune, and Blake; and then Ilia and I as the last group. Using our Ghosts, we called one another to ensure we had communication.
