"KANE!" I screamed. But there was no reply. With some new burst of energy, I stood up and ran to the window. I looked down and could see Kane lying there. "KANE!" I screamed again. A Minja grabbed me and pushed me forward. My heart was pounding. "You want to join him?" he asked. I looked behind me at him "Oh stuff you!" I cried and morphed into a eagle. I flew down and landed next to Kane. As soon I was down, I morphed into human form and knelt down beside him. I put his head on my lap "Kane?" I said quietly. To my huge surprise, Kane groaned and turned his head "Hello" he whispered. Tears of joy came to my eyes as I said "Hello. How do you feel?". Kane laughed weakly. "Like crap" he said. "Does he need to go to hospital?" asked Grim, landing next to us along with Flame, Monsoon and Louie. "No" I said immediately "I've decided on a new rule. No grown ups. It only means trouble when we're around them". The group nodded. It made sense to them.
Kane tried to sit up, but I pushed him back "Don't sit up" I said "You just need to stay here and reat for a bit". "Yes ma'am" he said sarcastically. I smiled "Just do one thing for me, will you?" "What?" Kane whispered. "Just...just live" I said "Just live and be OK" "That's a bit of a big-". Before Kane could finish his sentence, I kissed him. Right on the lips. I felt him tense up but then he relaxed and to took my lips away. The group stared. "Ewww..." said Grim. me and Kane looked at each other for a moment. Kane coughed awkwardly and I laughed nervously. Kane sat up "Where are the Minjas?" he asked "Still in the room" I said.
"So where do we go now?" asked Monsoon. "Back home, to the treehouse" I replied. "But we can't!" Kane said "It burnt down, remember?" I sighed "Oh...yeah". I thought for a moment "We can't go back there either" I said, pointing to the hotel. "Somehow, the Minjas are finding us wherever we go. That means we can't stay in the same place for long" said Kane. "That means....we're homeless" said Flame "and on the run" I finished.
When Kane had enough strength, we walked away from the hotel and wandered around Edinburgh. At last, we came to a park. "We'll sleep in that tree" I said, pointing to the tree in the middle of the park. There was a sign that said 'Do not climb this tree' but I ignored it and we climbed up. As night fell, the young ones and Louie fell asleep but me and Kane stayed awake for a bit. Finally, I spoke to Kane "Um...you know about what happened back there..." "It's fine" said Kane "Really, it's fine. To be perfectly honest..." Just then Louie turned over and mumbled to himself "...I sill don't see why you let him come with us" he finished. I looked at Louie "Because he doesn't want to go with the Minjas" I said. There was silence for a moment. Then Kane said "Maybe that's why they keep appearing. Maybe they want Louie" said Kane. I considered this, but said "I don't think so". Kane climbed across to sit on my branch. He put his arm around me and I lent into him "What do you think that they want?" he asked. I thought long and hard. Then I looked around at the sleeping group. Tibbs had climbed up here with us, and she was already licking them group, healing their wounds, Finally, I said "I don't know. But I think they want something else. Something big. Something better. Something powerful"
