CHAPTER 50

"That's what I was thinking too." Nakapatong ang ulo ni Dane sa kanyang mga kamay habang siya ay nakatihaya at nakatingin sa kisame.

"You reckon he's a special breed?" Nakatagilid si David paharap kay Dane. Nakapatong ang ulo sa kanyang palad, ang siko ay nasa unan, ang isang kamay ay nasa dibdib ng kausap, nilalaro ang utong nito. Litaw ang matipunong katawan ni David, ang dibdib nitong tinutubuan ng mga pinong buhok. Natakpan siya ng kumot mula sa baywang pababa.

Nakatanaw pa rin si Dane sa kisame. "I'm not sure. Maybe he is. Maybe the girl's powers wasn't working too well."

Bumalikwas si David at nilapit kay Dane ang kanyang mukha. "Maybe that's why they're interested in him."

Napalingon si Dane sa kasama. Sandali siyang napaisip. "You could be right. Maybe they know something about him that we don't, and that's why they want him."

"What don't we know about him?" Nakatitig pa rin si David sa kasama. "His profile says he's photokinetic."

"He's precog too."

"I haven't heard him say anything about the future."

Lumingon si Dane sa kausap at ngumiti. "Wanna see your future?"

"Don't you?" Hinalikan ni David ang braso ni Dane.

Binalik ni Dane ang tingin sa kisame. "He's more mysterious than I thought."

"All the more reason he should be with us. We gotta find out what tricks shortie has up his sleeve."

"If he's more powerful than us," saad ni Dane habang kinukuha ang kamay ni David at pinisil-pisil ito, "he better be on our side."

"If he wanted to be on their side, he would've gone to them a long time ago. Don't you think?"

Naisip ni Dane na may punto din ang si David. Muli na naman siyang na-guilty dahil tila ba ay umaandar na naman ang pagiging distrustful niya. "You're right."

"Besides, you can read his mind if you really want answers straight from him." Inamuy-amoy nito ang kili-kili ng kaulayaw. "How many times have I told you to just do it?" bulong nito.

Hindi kaagad sumagot si Dane. Napapikit lang siya nang dumako ang mga halik ni David sa kanyang utong. Nagsalita siyang muli. "I will when it's absolutely necessary."

"You look worried." Gumalaw si David at hinalikan sa pisngi si Dane.

"I'm not." Muli niyang tiningan ang kasama na hinihimas siya sa iba't-ibang bahagi ng kanyang katawan. "It's just that we don't know much about him."

"Like we don't know much about virtually everyone here."

Isang bagay pa ang bumagabag sa kanya. "Have you seen Rod?"

Umiling si David. "You spend more time with him than anyone else in the agency."

"Does anyone know where he goes when he's away? It's not like he has associates outside ISA. He doesn't have a family. We know that. And I don't think he has friends."

"How can you be so sure? I thought you couldn't read him?"

"Well, we talk a lot."

"Maybe he went to our facilities abroad. Maybe he does his own research."

"He doesn't go to our facilities abroad. He doesn't need to. He doesn't do research, too. We have like thirty scientists around the world."

"Wait, how many facilities do we have around the world again?"
