Today is the day that I graduate high school. Me and a few of my friends. School was cancelled today, the CDC said their is a disease going around. But the principal didn't call of the graduation ceremony. So most of us are going. I was a good five minutes away. I had my suit in a bag that my dad have me a for my eighth grade graduation same suit too. It was a little big on me back then. Everyone else was probably dressed already but I had to brush my hair and then put the suit on. And I didn't want to get hassled back at the house. I kinda wished I waited though traffic was bad and I was struggling to get in the parking lot. But when I finally got in I looked for my mom and her husband Josh I didn't see them which meant they were still getting ready. So I had a while to talk to my friends. I see Jabrel and his sister Akilah pull in right behind me. Jabrel is my best friend I met him in the eighth grade when I first moved to Hopkins, SC. "Hey Jabrel," I said. "Hey man why aren't you dressed up?" He asks. "I figured dress at school so my mom doesn't try and help me," I said with a sigh. "Hey Avry," Akilah said after sitting there silently. "Hey" I said. Jabrel and Akilah are twins but they don't look much alike anymore. Jabrel had dark skin and black hair while Akilah was light brown skin with dark brown hair. Their eyes and mouth were the only thing the same. They both wore glasses too. "You ready to head in?" Jabrel asks me. "Yeah let's do this," I said as I started to walk. Even though I was talking I couldn't help but wonder if my dad was gonna show up. The whole walk to the auditorium I was thinking about it. Then when we got their I had my blonde moment. I forgot to put on my suit. So I ran to the MS building and went in the bathroom. I went in the stall took off my clothes and started to put my suit on. I finally buttoned the last button. Then I pull a comb out of my bag and start combing my hair. It was long and dark dirty blonde almost brown. After I finished combing it an announcement came on. "Attention to all graduates. We have been put on lockdown. Not a school lockdown. The disease that is currently spreading the CDC wants people indoors so they can check to see if the outside air is safe. They have said that they will be coming to all the locked down schools for tests until then no one is prohibited to leave," said Principal Lemon. "The hell!?!" I said in shock. I started walking back to the auditorium. When I got there it was packed so I pull out my phone and call Jabrel. It rang a few times then he picked up "YEAH" he shouted in the phone. "Hey why are you yelling?" I asked. "WHAT?" he asked. I hung up the phone and texted him and told him to meet me in the gym. I worked my way to the gym it was a good few minutes away depending on how fast you walked. When I got in there I took off my jacket threw it on the ground. The gym was empty and quiet. It was peaceful which was rare for me. No one to mess with the peace or start a fight. Jabrel walks in the door. "Hey why did you need me here?" he asks. "I didn't I just figured we're gonna be here a while me might wanna find a nice set up," I said. "We might want to get everyone else" he said. "Not everyone just the ones we care about, the ones that showed up," I said. And he starts walking to the auditorium. I tried to look for some stuff to sleep on because it was getting dark and The ceremony was cancelled until this is over. Whatever this is. I walk outside the gym into the parking lot I had blankets in my car from when I was camping a while back. I brought them back in the gym to find a lot more people than before. There was Jabrel, Akilah, Morgan, Anthony, Quanterria. Lonza, and a lot more. All I know is I haven't got nearly enough blankets. People were gonna have to share. It was 10:25 I was gonna sleep through this so I set down the blankets and pillows down then I went to an empty spot in the gym. I plugged in my headphones and dozed off. I was laying on my jacket when I woke up at 4:56. I walked to the restroom but before I made it I heard some grunts and squeals. Not squeals more like attempts to scream. I poke my head around the corner looking for where the noise is coming from and I see it. I see an officer holding a girl down and raping her. Their were three of them too many to fight. I was hoping I was hallucinating but I blacked out I guess because I started running. I just kept running until I was back at the spot I was sleeping. I remember falling over and trying to go back to sleep I never felt like such a bitch, I wanted it to be over. Their was no sleeping after that.
I guess I fell asleep because Jabrel woke me up and asked me if I wanted breakfast. "Yeah what do they have?" I asked. "The usual, cereal, muffins, and I think grits," he says. "Can you grab me a muffin and an apple juice?" I asked. "Yeah I'll be back in a minute then I'm gonna kick your ass in some badminton!" he said. I rubbed my eyes until I woke up. I felt like shit, absolute shit. Akilah walks up to me. "Hey Avry," she said. "Hey," I said while yawning. "How did you sleep?" she asked. "Like shit, I woke up in the middle of the night," I said and then remembered what I saw. "Did something wake you up?" she asked. But I just got real quiet I forgot I was talking to her I looked around the gym to see if the girl I saw last night was in the gym but, she wasn't anywhere to be found. "Avry!?!" Akilah says. "Huh?" I said. "What woke you up?" she asked again. I had to lie to her until I knew for sure what happened. "Nothing, I was moving in my sleep and hit my arm on the wall," I said. "Oh sorry," she said. "It's fine, man I wonder if they'll let us leave today," I said. "They said it's gonna he a few more days," she said. "Akilah if we're gonna be here a while I need your help with something," I said. "What is it?" she asked. "I need you to sneak out of here with me, I need to get home and grab some stuff, and see if anyone's there or not," I said. "When and how?" she asked. "Tomorrow early in the morning while everyone's asleep I know the way to my house, tell no one if you do we'll get caught," I said. "That's the plan?" she asked like she was surprised. "What's wrong with that?" I asked. "Nothing....how long did it take to think it out?" she asked. "All night" I said.
