bit back any tears that might have formed, and turned to go upstairs. Grey stopped me.

“You have to eat, and rest-” he pleaded.

I sighed and sat down on the blood-drenched floor. He sat down beside me, with his arms around me in a warm hug. We sat like that for several minutes before I felt well enough to go upstairs. I sat at the kitchen table, while Grey cooked me a meal of pizza and garlic bread. He served me my plate, and sat down in the seat beside mine.

We ate in silence, both of us affected by Max’s kidnapping. We would occasionally say something like “Good, isn’t it?” Or laugh when the other did something funny. The cheese dripped off my pizza, and I hurried to catch it with my tongue. Grey, who was drinking a pop, laughed, squirting pop out his nose. I nearly doubled over with laughter. Soon, dinner was over, and I went up with Grey. We went to his room, where I took a short, but satisfying nap.

Grey watched as Grace slept. Poor girl… He thought. She’s been through so much. He got up and went to Cecil’s room. Cecil was just resting, so Grey didn’t have to search for him.

“Hey, Cecil…” He said.

“Oh Grey!” Cecil said. “What do you need?” Grey took a deep breath and sat down.

“Grace and I are leaving.” He said. “The doctor is taking action, and we can’t wait any longer. He also took Max.”

Cecil looked shocked. “I’m coming with you!” he declared.

“I knew you would.” Grey said, looking satisfied. “We leave in two hours. Be ready then.” Grey took his leave, and left Cecil to get ready. He stopped in his own room, getting ready himself.

I woke up and saw Grey sitting in the chair across from me.

“Time to get ready!” He said, grabbing me and dragging me out of bed.

I got showered, and dressed. I left my hair down for once, and both Grey and Cecil complimented me on it. I smiled for the first time since I woke up, and grabbed anything I might need. Grey gave me some medicine and bandages, and Cecil gave me some weapons. I felt like I could fend off any monster in my way, but… The doctor is more than a monster… I thought, twirling my hair around my finger.

I shook it off. This was the only chance I had. I couldn’t wait any longer. We made sure we had everything, and set out for the lab. I noticed that Grey wasn’t wearing his doctor’s coat.

“Hey Grey...” I said. “You look different…” He blushed and looked at his feet. “Don’t worry, it’s a good different!” I said, assuringly. It was only when we got halfway that I remembered something.

“Hey, guys!” I said. “The lab is blown up, remember? He can’t be there…” We looked at each other in disbelief.

We didn’t know where he was. We had set out, not knowing where he was! I sighed and leaned against the wall.

“We’re never going to find him…” I said.

I’m in the abandoned yard… a voice said.

“What?” I said, looking around. “We didn’t say anything.” Cecil said. I shook my head and led the way.

“How do you know where to go?” Grey asked.

“I don’t.” I replied. “I trust that this is the right way!”

They nodded and there were no more questions asked. As long as we might be going toward the doctor, they didn’t care.
