Y/n looked at her reflection in the mirror. She was terrified at what she saw. It was her wedding dress fitting and she absolutely hated it.

The dress was poofy and gave her an uncomfortable itch. It was strapless and hung scandalously low. She turned back to her soon-to-be mother in law, a frown on her face. Nikki's eyes widened as she noticed the girls discomfort.

"What have they done? Is that a dress or a piece of fabric?" She said and both of them started to laugh. "You poor girl, you must take that off immediately," She said and Y/n nodded.

"Gladly," She said, walking back into the dressing room and practically ripping the dress off and putting her silk robe back on. When she walked out she saw Nikki holding a beautiful lace dress. It had a lace illusion neckline and intricate gold patterns. The queen looked up at the princess and smiled.

"This was my wedding dress, I had always hoped that my daughter would wear it on her wedding day but as I have five sons, that wouldn't really work," Nikki said and Y/n smiled.

"It's beautiful," She said and Nikki nodded, almost in a trance of the memories the dress brought to her.

"I want you to wear it," she said and Y/n's eyes widened.
"Your majesty I-I could never it's yours-"

"Yes, and I want you to wear it. Y/n you are like the daughter I never had, I would be honoured if you were the one to wear it," she said and Y/n traced her index finger over the designs.

"Ok, she said and Nikki smiled, handing her the dress.

Tom walked into the boutique, wanting to discuss something with his mother when he saw something that made his heart skip a beat.

Y/n was wearing his mother's wedding dress. Her hair was down and framed her face perfectly. The dress hugged her perfectly in all the right places and he blushed as he made eye contact with her.

"Oh, Tom! What do you need?" Nikki asked, walking up to her son.

"I-I uh just w-wanted to ask you a f-few questions," He stuttered, not taking his eyes of Y/n and she blushed under his gaze.

"Alright, I'll meet you in the library in twenty minutes," Nikki said, giving her besotted son a pitiful smile. He nodded and made his way out of the room.

Y/n watched after him before turning back to Nikki, she gave the girl a knowing look.

"I remember being in your place," She said sitting down on the couch.

"What do you mean?" She asked, joining the queen on the couch.

"I was in love with someone else before I married the king," Nikki whispered and Y/n looked down at the floor.

"Oh," she said, "What did you do?" Y/n asked and Nikki gave her a weak smile.

"I let him go," she said, tears in her eyes.

"Why?" Y/n asked, "If you loved him why let him go?"

"Because my parents wanted me to marry the heir to the English throne, that's why. It was my duty to give him an heir and unite our kingdoms. The same duty that you have as well," Nikki said, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"I don't want that to be my only purpose in life," Y/n whispered and Nikki gave her a sympathetic look.

"Life is a cruel thing, but, as I did with Dom, you will learn to love James," she said, Y/n didn't respond as the queen stood up, "Now I must go meet Tom," She said simply before leaving the young princess alone.

Once the queen was gone Y/n let the tears freely flow, maybe she was right, it would be less complicated if she let Tom go. She could learn to love James. All she needed to do, was talk to Tom.

-

"Mother," Tom said, standing up as the queen entered the library.

"What did you want to ask me, Tom?" She asked as they sat down.

"I wanted to talk to you about my grandparents on dad's side," He said and Nikki looked at him sceptically.

"What do you want to know?" She asked and Tom took a deep breath before replying.

"I want to know the type of relationship that Beatrice and James had," Tom said.

"Well, I couldn't really tell you. I mean, James died when your father was only seven years old, he doesn't really remember him and Beatrice rarely ever spoke of him after his death," Nikki said, trying to remember what her husband told her about the topic.

"Why didn't she talk about him?" Tom asked, leaning forward in his chair.

"I don't think she particularly liked him all that much. And after they had two children their relationship just kind of fell apart,"

"So why wasn't she considered a traitor after helping Thomas murder him?" Tom asked.

"Because there was no one else left to rule until your father came of age, and when he did, she died soon after so they couldn't do anything," Nikki said, noticing her sons confused look. "Why are you asking these questions, Tom?" She asked.

"I was just curious," Tom said, and Nikki nodded.

"Tom, if you love her-"

"Will everyone stop saying that! Can I not just ask questions without hearing those words every time?!" Tom shouted. Nikki was surprised at his sudden outburst. Out of all her children, Tom was the calmest and most composed in every situation.

"Tom, it's just we know that you have taken a liking to her and with the wedding in two weeks we just don't want-"

"I understand that the wedding is in two weeks mother. I really do. Why can't all of you just accept the fact?" Tom said tears in his eyes and Nikki wrapped her arms around her son to comfort him.

"It's ok, Tommy. I understand, no one is going to say anything about feelings anymore, alright?" She said soothingly and Tom nodded. After he calmed down, Nikki stood up.

"Now, I need to go finish with some preparations for the wedding," She said and left him sitting there.

He watched after her, a smirk on his face as he mentally patted himself on his back, proud for manipulating yet another one of his family members.

Y/n had been searching the castle for a good thirty minutes before she found anyone. She had been looking for Tom to speak with him, to have a conversation that she really didn't want to have. Instead of Tom, she found James in the library. She tried to leave without him noticing her but her attempt failed.

"Y/n, I wanted to speak with you," He called out and she turned around, plastering a fake smile on her face as she walked towards him.

"What can I do for you?" She asked.

Over the past two weeks, she had decided that she wasn't very fond of James, he always acted like her knew everything and flirted with every girl at their engagement balls. She felt slightly hurt and betrayed, but she wouldn't say that as she would be a hypocrite. She was secretly seeing his brother for fucks sake.

"For the next to weeks I don't want you to have any contact with Tom," He said and Y/n's eyes watered.
"I understand," she said and James' eyes widened.

"Really? You'll listen...just like that?" He asked and she nodded.

"Yeah," She whispered and James smiled, completely oblivious to her pained expression.

"Fantastic!" He said, clapping his hands and making his way out of the library.

Y/n stood there for what felt like forever. All she knew was that the tears didn't stop falling until she heard a voice from the door.

"Y/n?" She looked over her shoulder and saw Tom walking towards her. "What's wrong?" He asked, wrapping his arms around her.
"Tom, I-I need to talk to you," She said, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"What about?" He asked, concern filling his eyes.

"About us."
