"How are you feeling doc?" Willow asked as she entered the examination room of the animal clinic.

"Better." Deaton looked up from what he was doing and kindly smiled at the girl. "Thank you. I'm told you found out where I was being held."

"Just an Oread instinct." Willow shrugged, jumping up on a counter. "So, why did you call me here doc?"

"I think it's time for a little story." Deaton replied, bandaging up the dog in front of him. "There used to be an exceptionally powerful Alpha who lived here. Packs from all around would come to her for advice and guidance." He started with a ghost of a smile on his lips. "And she would come to me for advice and guidance... and your mother Rain. Her name was Talia Hale."

Willow's mind was flooded with questions but she didn't know where to start so she kept quiet, intently waiting for the older man to continue his story as heavy rain started to pour outside.

"While I admire your willingness to extend an olive branch, I have to tell you, it might not be welcome." Deaton told Deucalion who just finished explaining his plan to meet up with Gerard Argent.

"And I'm not sure that Gerard is the one to accept it." Talia Hale added, crossing her arms.

"It's true." Deaton nodded. "The Argents have a matriarchal leadership."

"Actually, I was speaking about the fact that he's a complete psychopath." Talia stated, earning a nod from Rain Harper. "I mean, the man cuts people in half with a broad sword."

"Do the two of you really have so little faith in people?" Deucalion asked in disbelief. "You think Gerard isn't worried about the deaths on his own side?"

"I don't think he is." Rain spoke up. "He has a vision and he'll do anything to keep it that way. He hates the supernatural."

"And who are you?" Deucalion raised an eyebrow at the pretty woman standing next to Talia Hale.

"Rain Harper."

"She's my pack's Oread." Talia added with pride.

"My god... Oread?" Deucalion looked at Rain with fascination.

Of course they had heard of them. They were rare, considered to be extinct. He knew the powers Oreads brought to their packs, the advantages.

"Yes and I'm advising you not to trust Gerard." Rain replied, not sharing everything she knew.

"Do you know the story of the scorpion and the frog?" Deaton jumped back in, taking the attention away from Rain, earning a grateful smile from the woman.

"I have a feeling I'm about to hear it." Deucalion replied with a sigh.

"When the scorpion asked the frog to carry him across the river, the frog said 'how do I know you won't sting me?'." Deaton began explaining as Talia shared a smile with Rain. "The scorpion replied, 'why would I do that? Then we'd both drown.' So the frog agreed. Halfway across the river, the scorpion stung the frog. When the frog asked him why he did it, since now they would both die, the scorpion replied, 'it's my nature.'" He finished the story. "Your faith in humanity may not matter if you underestimate Gerard's nature."

"Make sure you meet him on neutral ground." Talia advised Deucalion. "And do not walk in there alone."

"I'm an Alpha." Deucalion's eyes shone red. "I never walk alone."

"But how was my mom in Talia Hale's pack?" Willow asked with a frown. "We lived in Washington."
