As normal the soldiers were practicing and polishing, preening and parading. Some nodded at Kendra as he walked by. Aydin was chatting with a servant girl.

“Aydin,” called Kendra, “sound the horn.”

The horn blower’s demeanour changed from affable to grim. He mounted the steps and quickly ran up to the top of the horn tower. Giving three loud blasts on the horn for a few seconds each he then looked down into the parade area to see captains, guards and sergeants collecting there.

Kendra towered over them, waiting another minute until enough had assembled. “My friends, we are now at war with the kingdom of Asshur. We must ready ourselves and muster those men who are duty bound for service and those that are not. We have three days before we move out. Muster your men.”

Kendra went to the commander’s office followed by the other commanders.
