So I've come across lots of fanfics where there are age gaps between the two protagonists. To be honest, I don't mind if they become friends of some romantic interest: maybe kissing or makeshift dates while the girl is 16 and the guy is 23, but it becomes disgusting when the girl is 16 and the guy is 23 and they're in a sexual relationship(or vice versa.) Because that's not cute.
That's legit statutory rape, and when you've got an age gap and it involves sexual situations, that's promoting statutory rape. I don't care if it's a story, but if you're going to promote something like age gaps and rape, show the consequences. I know that my book Fashion Emergency sounds like it has statutory rape in it, but they end up actually not having sex even though it sounded like they did.
I saw a book with sexual situations and an age gap with like 6 million reads. No! No, no, no! Why would you write a story like that? That's going to make those six million readers think that age gaps are okay in a platonic or romantic relationship. That's so gross to me and I'm not okay with rape of any kind. The consentual word is a "yes", not a moan or a pant. It's a yes.
