"If I fail this challenge, I'm selling Mark on eBay."
Seated comfortably behind Haechan and Mark, Chaehyun gave a closed, tight smile to the camera whilst Mark looked around lost as to why Chaehyun wanted to sell him in specific. A high pitched 'what' came from his lips, to which Chaehyun ignored and proceeded to mess with the grey strands of Haechan's hair, unknowingly relaxing him in the process. Chaehyun gave a bright smile as the woman behind the camera introduced the four boys, opting to cheer the loudest since he was in competitive mode.
The woman introduced the challenge and Chaehyun fell back in his chair arms folded as he squinted his eyes in an attempt to look unbothered and cool, however, he swiftly realized that there was no back to the chair and almost fell to the ground, his hold on Mark's shoulder seemed to bring him back up. A quiet curse fell from his lips, but he chose to hope that the cameras didn't pick up on it.
"I'll show you what living statues look like," Mark called out earning some laughs, one being from Chaehyun who was laughing more out of disbelief. There's no way on Earth that The Mark Lee would be able to keep still for any song. "Chae, stop snorting. We both know I can do it."
Chaehyun patted Mark's shoulder as if to say 'sure you can bud'.
The rules were explained and finally, the first song began. Chaehyun took in a breath when he heard it begin. 'Monster' by EXO. He really liked this song and pressed his lips together tightly as he clutched onto Mark's shoulder. He shared a look with Taeil, who knew he was already struggling.
"This is actually one of my fav--wait no, our favourite EXO songs," Said Mark, turning to glance at Chaehyun who nodded his head mutely. "Chae's already struggling. Haechan, he can't talk. This your chance, call him Chaehyun without the word Hyung."
"I already do."
Chaehyun pulled numerous facial expressions, one including daggers at Haechan and Mark over the Hyung situation.
"Wow, this is actually hard."
Chaehyun bit back the sarcastic comment and opted for a shake of the head instead, at Mark's amazing revelation.
"The annoying thing is, I know the dance and it's taking me everything to not jump up and copy them. Like honestly, I refuse to lose this challenge," Chaehyun spoke up, a completely serious look taking over his features. "Like If I lose, I am selling Mark on Amazon."
"Thought it was eBay?" Mark turned to look at him.
Chaehyun shrugged. "Put you both."
Whilst the pair were discussing where Mark would be going either eBay or Amazon, neither of them noticed Haechan take a breath and fall forward or that Taeil accidentally started moving along to the beat. When they both found out, they turned to Taeil abruptly and Chaehyun grabbed him by the jacket and began shaking him.
Finally, the song came to an end and Chaehyun let out a breath of relief. He slid the headphones back and stared at the woman behind the camera.
"That was harder than it looks," he told her.
Mark nodded. "Yeah, I was surprised."
Shortly after, 'Cherry Bomb' shot through the headphones which were now placed back on top of Chaehyun's head and he let out a breath. Mark made a comment about them being handsome, but for Chaehyun, seeing his old self, he grimaced. Chaehyun hated looking back at music videos, he can't even watch 'Simon Says' without cringing at himself. Chaehyun groaned and pulled Haechan back into his arms, hiding his face in his hair.
"I don't even wanna look, but this is a banger. So."
"You sounded really British right then," Taeil pointed out.
"That's because I am British. That's like me saying to Mark, 'oh you sounded really Canadian then'. Taeil-Hyung, I love you, darling but you have to remember where I'm from." Chaehyun jokingly flipped his hair to the side and turned back to the screen after barely paying attention. Mark almost slipped up and so did Chaehyun. He did lift his hand an inch but quickly caught himself from copying the choreography.
Haechan noticed and sent him a playful grin. "This one is....easy."
Chaehyun scoffed but threw on a smile. "The easiest didn't move once. Didn't even feel like it."
Mark went onto explain the music video whilst Chaehyun messed with Haechan's hair, though his other hand was placed on Taeil's shoulder, making sure he didn't leave him out. Chaehyun was feeling extra affectionate for some odd reason and found himself being a lot clingier to Haechan than usual. Of course, Chaehyun isn't usually like this and Haechan didn't mind.
Apparently, Haechan sang and Chaehyun couldn't help but giggle as he recited the words from the lady back to Haechan in Korean.
"Ahh, it comes out naturally."
The next song, Chaehyun was not ready for. But the second he heard the song start, he was up on his feet in seconds belting out the lyrics.
"24 KARAT MAGIC IN THE AIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR--oh crap my voice cracked."
The boys burst out laughing but Chaehyun didn't let it bother him as he continued dancing with more energy than he ever had. Like he'd put more effort into that tiny little segment of dancing than he had into an entire NCT choreography on stage. The boys joined in, cheering and singing along with him but things got to a new level when he decided to twerk and Mark cheered him on whilst Taeil tried to get him back in his seat, meanwhile, the staff were loving it.
"OH YEAH! THIS IS MY JAM. YASSSSS SIS."
Where he had learned that term from, nobody knew.
When he had finally calmed down, the song came to an end and finally, Chaehyun was back in his seat breathing heavily as he leaned against Mark for support. He chose not to say a word, technically he couldn't because he was so out of breath. Taeil turned in his seat to face him, reaching forward he brushed the hair out of Chaehyun's face and patted his shoulder. Chaehyun grinned knowing that would trigger many Chaeil stans.
"You okay now? You got that all out your system buddy?" Mark patronized with a pat to Chaehyun's back.
"Much better. Thanks, Mark. We did well on that one guy, it went so well. Didn't dance at all."
When the next song began playing, all eyes were on him as he took a sharp intake. He turned to look at the staff with a 'are you kidding me?' kinda look.
"Seriously? You threw my girlfriend in there?" He sighed, but couldn't stop the cheeky smile when she appeared on the screen. "Okay, so this is a lose-lose situation. I either get yelled at for not bopping to her song because she watches everything with me in it, so she'll be watching this OR I lose the challenge a second time."
"This song was written for you, Chae. You're a bad boy."
"I mean, not to brag but uh--I once walked outside wearing my socks inside out. I mean, oosh doesn't get any more bad boyish than that." Chaehyun winked to the camera before taking another breath. "I genuinely might just stay still throughout this just to annoy her for pulling that prank on me the other week. or just because I get pleasure out of annoying other people."
Chaehyun successfully managed to sit still throughout that entire song without saying a word or even moving an inch.
The songs flew past with Chaehyun pretty much giving in and dancing to every one of them and also went on about his undying admiration for Ariana Grande. Finally, the challenge came to an end and Chaehyun did not regret his decision of keeping still throughout Bad Boy.
Until the challenge came out and he got a text from his girlfriend who wasn't happy, to say the least. Let's just say, she may or may not have posted a video on Twitter of her listening to one of Chaehyun's solo songs with a blank face...relationship goals?
