Chapter 41
You know that feeling you get when you just know something terrible is going to happen? Like your currently in the eye of a storm waiting for it to pass, to then be in the disaster that it'll create and leave behind. When you do something and you know your parents are going to punish you as soon as you see them. That's the feeling that grew in my stomach as the seconds kept rolling.
"What was that Charlie?" Vince asked.
I looked around at the group surrounding me carrying worried expressions. I tried to give them a reassuring smile but I'm positive no one believed it.
"I want you guys to head home just in case there's any trouble" I ordered them. Vince ended up rolling his eyes at me. I stared intently at him.
"C'mon on Charlie, we're not going to ditch you when our packs in trouble. We're coming with you. No matter what you say."
I looked him defeated, he had proven himself and the others that no matter what I say there going to follow me with the previous weeks of living here.
"Alright,fine. Let's go"
~
By the time we reached the area which I last heard the howls it was full of werewolves in human form and wolf form. There was a thin line between each group. The tension was prominent in the air. If it was possible you could of been able to choke on it.
I walked into the cleared area with my head held high, though with a slight nervousness that I haven't felt in a while. Everyone in Eric's father's pack instantly froze whatever they were doing, literally. There eyes were full of shock and anticipation. I walked straight into the middle of the area in front of my pack. I noticed most of the wolves had drifted into the shadows that the trees had provided at this time of the afternoon.
"Charlotte wh-what are you doing here?" Principal Liam asked the astoundment clear in his voice. I smiled smugly at him.
"What am I doing here? Well I was just walking in these forests for my daily stroll when I heard these howls, I thought they resembled wolves which I though was odd and followed the sounds to here. I am just as surprised to have found you here then you are of me" I lied to him with a straight confused face.
"Well-" I cut him off before he could start.
"No use lying, I've already guessed" I told him with narrowed eyes.
"You have?..." he asked confused.
"Of course I have, our town have been friendly with the forest wolves for thousands of generations, they almost act like dogs to you. It wasn't that hard to guess" I lied on the spot. I should receive a grammy sometime.
"Uh..." he trailed off, and gave me a weird look. "That's correct! When these wolves saw your friends they saw them as strangers, because they've never seen them before. Before anything regrettable happened we came in and calmed them down" He continued on with my on the spot story.
I smiled at him. I smiled at everyone. I smiled at the situation we were in.
"Well thank you for helping my unsuspecting friends from the potential danger" I said letting a chuckle slip in at the end.
"That was very kind of you, I hope you have a pleasant day guarding the forest. We'll be on our very way" I thanked him and started motioning my pack to start leaving the clearing, leaving me still visible to Principal Liam's pack.
"And until our next encounter" I told him, staring into his eyes watching as they suddenly grew to the size of saucers. I smirked then left as well. For I, am becoming impatient with this packs blindless of housing another pack and because of this I have possibly just given him a clue. A clue I know will bite me on the butt. A clue that happened to be my eyes changing to my wolves.
~
The next morning the whole house awoke to their alarms signaling another torturous day of school. We all contributed to making our breakfast's and organizing our school equipment. I thought we felt like a normal pack, until we all heard the front door banging open and the heavy swift footsteps coming towards the kitchen.
We all simultaneously looked up and stared at the intruder with minimum interest. Eric. He looked like he had a ruff (hahahaha, ruff. Get it? Because we're all dogs) back on track, he looked like he had a ruff night and his morning preparation didn't seem any better. His hair was more messy then usual, his clothes slighty crimped, backpack half open, shoe laces half done. He looked like he was chased by wolves. *High five* thank you.
"Charlie we're going to school now." he stated already leaving the way he came from with a new slow yet still swift pace. I rolled my eyes at him and his moodiness. I swear guys are more emotional then girls. At least we know how to control them to a certain point.
"See ya laters guys, have at least some fun at school and try to make friends! No prostitutes or players though! Would very much appreciate it!" I told me with a smile leaving the same way as Eric did.
I found his parked car at the end of the lined up cars that belonged to my pack. I opened the passenger door and plopped into my seat, closing the door behind me and letting my head rest back as Eric fast started the car and sped away.
"Alright slow down fast an furious competitor" I said laying my hand on his shoulder. He pulled himself away from my touch. I felt a small tang of sadness creep up inside of me but pushed it away angrily. If he wants to be angry then I'll be angry right back, like a little child not getting her well deserved ice cream.
"Alright tell me what's got your knickers in a twist otherwise I'll jump out of this car" I demanded. He glared hard onto the road as my threatening voice reached his ears. "Your an idiot, you know that right? So dumb and careless. Just because you're a rare doesn't mean your invisible!" he yelled at me. I closed my retorting voice from answering him. His topic of conversation actually surprised me.
"Be careful who you call an idiot" I told him. "This is EXACTLY what I mean. You act all tuff like you can end me, and I have no doubt you can, but that's far from the point. The point is that you need to watch your smart mouth and your actions. Damn it Charlotte. Do you know the ripple effects you've had on my dad's pack last night. No one with high importance went to sleep until 4 o'clock in the morning. You want to know why? Because they've been discussing your whole life, your life here before you left, your life in England, your life currently. They know something's up, and they plan to do things. Imaginable things" He told me in a beyond angry tone. His knuckles fully white, his posture rigid, his face red.
I just stared at him. "You're so lucky I was involved in the meeting otherwise you'd be alone in a forest being attacked by members of my pack. To test your abilities and study your moves" He told me parking into an empty space in the school's parking lot, still not looking at me. I looked at his face pleading through our weak mate link to turn around and face me. His body shivered a tiny bit but he did slowly turn his head towards me. His eyes wolf yellow and staring hard me.
I smiled at him, causing his face to contort to one of angry confusion. I climbed over and sat on his lap, like a princess would on a horse back in those medieval days. I held his face in between my hands and kept my eyes on his, looking deeper. I could tell he really was angry and upset about my safety and actions, the emotion in his eyes the same as the when he found me in the grass after I escaped from being kidnapped. I then did what I never could before. I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. His posture was still rock hard within the first few seconds but he slowly unravelled and wrapped him arms around me and rested him head in my neck as he breathed out hard, calming himself down.
This hug wasn't like anything I've experienced before with Blade. Which turned cold as soon as he first hit me. Those hugs were full of him gripping me in an almost death grip and me trying to pretend I was somewhere else instead of his arms. But with Eric it felt beyond warm. Like a burning fire. Something I could get used to.
I heard a knocking sound and turned my head towards the side window. I saw Jet, Eric's close friend, his face squishing into the glass window to get a better view of inside and us. When he saw my face fully his eyes widened and his mouth grew into a smile. He then started jumping up and down while still leaning down, clapping softly at us. I gave him a weird face which he automatically turned with his eyes criss-crossing. I stifled out a laugh causing Eric to lift his head from my neck to see.
His response was a groan. I continued to laugh. This is a interesting moment. I motioned Jet to move back so I could jump out of the car.
The air outside was getting chilly. I pulled Eric out of the car behind me and turned to Jet. "Soooo whats the gossip between you two?" he asked with a smirk. I grinned at him. "Wouldn't you like to know" I told him with my own smirk then walked away from the pair. Turning my head a bit to wave goodbye to Eric.
I walked up the stairs to enter the school building and saw everyone still staring at me. I rolled my eyes at them and continued. It feels like I've been at this school for months when in reality only a few weeks. I reached my locker and pulled out the books I need and chucked them in my bag.
Was about to zip my bag closed when someone skimmed past me running. I turned my head just in time to see blonde hair turn the corner at the end of the hallway. I slammed my locker closed and ran after her my bag being an inconvenience on my back. I turned the corner but stopped. It was just another block of lockers and classrooms.
I used my wolf hearing to pinpoint the exact classroom she locked herself in. I walked down the corridors smiling at the surrounding people, trying to be friendly, instead of getting stared at.
I grabbed the knob of the door and tried to jiggle it open to no success. I stared at the down with a frown until a brilliant spy movie came to mind. I grabbed two bobby pins from my hair and jammed them into the lock. Already hearing a satisfying click. You could hardly tell I've done this before pfft.
I opened the door and walked in, locking the door behind me. I reached for the closest wall to find the light switch even though I knew where she was in the room crying. "Corey?" I called out. "Please go away!" she pleaded crying harder. Just as I found the light switch.
Light flooded the zoom making it a lot easier to see where everything was. Corey was sitting huddled against the far corner crying into it. I walked towards her slowly and cautiously. "What's wrong Corey?" I asked from behind her. I could visibly see her shoulders shaking.
"Please just leave me alone Charlie" she whispered. "Not until you tell me what's wrong" I demanded. "Why do you even care?" she asked angrily. "I don't even know, just turn around" I answered. "You just want to see this happen again, don't you?!" she asked angrily, her tone raising. "What do you mean?" I asker, confused.
"I only had one mission, to keep Eric busy. To be his girlfriend and get him around my finger until this mystery girl came. To then I had to keep them away from each other. But it just had to be you that came, just had to be, didn't it? But still I couldn't do that because you ruined everything by being you!" she ranted and finished by turning around and facing me.
I honestly choked on my words.
