Kendall Jenner's POV
(8:23 PM Tuesday)
"Yeah, I kind of pretty much know who you are, Jonas," Liam said, quite harshly as he licked his lips, nodding furiously. "What're you doing here, anyway?"
Joe chuckled as he turned to me, "Why's he so stern? I mean, he doesn't look like a person who'd be all..." He glanced at Liam and quickly looked back at me, "Quirky and fun," he said coldly. "Who is he, anyway?"
I folded my arms across my chest and gave me a smug look as I answered, "He's an old friend. Back from third grade, until Senior year when I dropped out of school..."
Joe gave me a mischievous look. I knew I shouldn't have told him that.
"Wow, you dropped? My brothers and I were busy as hell with Disney record deals and stuff, but we never dropped from homeschool."
I wanted to smack him, "Well, you idiot, you shouldn't have mentioned homeschool, because that is totally different from what I was doing as a teenager. I went to an actual school, Jonas, not studying at home with my mom and a trashy textbook with crossword puzzles in it."
Joe rolled his eyes and turned to Liam, "I'm gonna need to borrow Kendall for a minute," He said, making Liam tense up.
After a second, Joe frowned, "Actually, maybe more than a minute, I gotta take her to the beach."
"No, you're not taking her anywhere!" Liam yelled, making me quite frightened by his sudden outburst. "If you're taking her somewhere, I'm going with her," he added more calmly.
Joe cracked his knuckles and smiled, "Of course. But no eaves-dropping 'cause I'll make sure you don't get out of there alive if you get a single word of what Kendall is also hearing."
I rolled my eyes as Joe turned around. "Why're we going to the beach?"
"Just to show you something. I mean, you'll be hearing some things that I want you to hear."
He glanced back at me, smiled, and made his way back down to the car, leaving me hurrying behind him.
I was about to head into the passenger seat when I felt someone grab my elbow. It was Liam.
"You're really gonna just go with him?" He asked me in a hushed voice. "Like, go with him... in his car!?"
I shrugged, "Yeah, why is there a problem?"
Liam licked his lips and glanced at Joe, who was looking himself in the rear-view mirror.
"Yes, obviously, Kendall," Liam continued to hiss. "You don't even know what he wants you to do— can't I come with you? You know, just to drive you back home if you're not too comfortable with him—"
"Right now, Liam," I interrupted, giving him a sweet smile, "I'm not too comfortable with you because I haven't seen you since senior year, and then you suddenly show up, on the couch in my mom's beach house where I've never been to ever since senior year."
Liam pressed his lips together and looked down, "OK, I'm down to just following you around..."
"I'm not too OK with that either," I said, sucking in a breath of sympathy. Liam sighed and looked at the ground.
I could tell he was biting the insides of his mouth, seemingly, thinking very hard.
"OK," he finally said, licking his lips. "Then I'll just trail behind you and Jonas."
I smiled, "Yeah. That works fine. Just do what he told you to do." I turned to Joe and smile, signaling him to wait for me for a second.
"Wait, who'd— what's the thing I'm supposed to do?" Liam stuttered, making me close my eyes in patience.
"I wasn't really paying attention to what he was saying," Liam said bitterly as I turned to him, an annoyed look on my face.
"Stay in the car," I told him. I didn't wait for an answer as I swung my legs into Joe's car.
He smiled at me, and we zoomed off into the night.

"OK," Joe started to say as I stepped out of his car. "You wait behind that trash can, Kendall, while I go talk to him."
He brushed his hands after he got out of the car, and I followed him out quickly.
"Wait, who?" I asked, hurriedly.
Joe turned to me, pity look in his eyes, "Oh, I forgot— Nick. You'll be hearing Nick confess all the things— his thoughts about your pregnancy and stuff."
I raised my eyebrows and let out a scoff, "Are you seriously kidding me... I don't wanna do this," I finally said after a long pause.
Liam stumped out of the car, looking nervously from me to Joe.
Joe frowned, "What, why? You'll get to know everything— and you know what the best part is, Kendall? The best part is that you get these thoughts truthfully. 'Cause Nick's truthful... only when he's talking to someone like me."
I raised my eyebrows, "Are you kidding me? How do you know?"
"Because I'm his brother, Kendall!" Joe said exasperatedly. "I know him. I lived with him— well, the first time I met him was definitely interesting," Joe said, letting out a soft chuckle. "I tried to strangle him, for some stupid reason... I was just excited, that's all..."
I sighed and looked out onto the sand where the sound of rustling ocean water, crashing against the shore. I squinted as I saw a crouching body, smoking a cigar.
I smacked Joe's arm blindly, as he kept talking.
"What?"
"Is that Nick?"
Joe looked out into the ocean, "Yeah, yeah, I think that is..."
I nodded nervously, "OK, then you better go before he leaves."
Joe nodded and pointed to the trash can, probably trying to tell me again about our plan, but I smacked him again, "Just go. I know the plan."

"Thought you'd be here," Joe said as he approached the man sitting alone. He seemed scared as he jumped up. "Did I scare you?" Joe continued as they both laughed. Nick nodded and they both sat down.
Joe was quiet for a while and both of them sat looking at the stars. "So," Joe finally spoke up. "Why'd you come here, anyway?"
"I thought you knew," Nick said, chuckling.
"I said I thought you'd come here, but trust me, it was the last thing on my mind."
"You thought that I'd be out on a beach in Miami alone in the middle of the night after I'd just found out that my girlfriend's been some kind of manipulator?"
Ouch, that hurt.
Joe shrugged, "I told you, it was the last thing on my mind."
"Well, let's just say it's good that you tried to look everywhere. All the places you thought I'd be."
Joe nodded, "Yeah, I'm quite— I'm quite satisfied with myself."
"You're not so stupid after all!" Nick joked. Supposedly.
Joe smacked him, "Shut up, I never was stupid!"
"Whatever you say. So, what're you doing here? Why'd you spend all night looking for me?" Nick asked, making me let out a breath of annoyance.
They are not getting anywhere.
"I just thought there'd be something wrong with you, that's all," Joe said casually.
"Honestly, you have to know something. I mean, you wouldn't bother me if you hadn't known that there would be something else on my mind," Nick said.
"Speaking like that, I'm betting you already know," Joe said, looking up at the sky.
"I do. If it's what you mean, of course."
Joe let out a soft laugh, "If you're talking about a pregnant Kendall, then we're on the same page."
I sucked in a breath and closed my eyes, definitely not ready for what I'm about to hear. I was just about to turn around when Liam caught me.
"Listen, Kendall, I know it's hard—"
"Liam!" I hissed, quickly turning to see what Nick and Joe are up to. "You were supposed to stay in the car—"
"I know, but I just kept seeing that you were always about to run, so I had to come out here to... to prevent that."
I raised my eyebrows and turned back to see what Nick and Joe now talking about, but only after pushing Liam's ass back to the car.
"...actually ready to be a dad, and being this introvert, I don't think I can handle telling people my real... emotions, so what I'm saying, is that I just lied to you," Nick was saying.
OK, great, I just missed a bunch of things.
"Yeah, I get it. So you're now telling me, you are worried about being a dad?" Joe said.
"Um, yeah?" Nick sassed, kind of obvious. "Dude, like, I'm in control over this kid— I mean, not like in-control, mind control, shit like that, but like— This kid's gonna be my responsibility."
I tried to force back the tears as I smiled. Nick was going to be such a special kind of dad...
He continued, "I mean, dude, I'm supposed to drive... the kid to school and make sure it's like, doing good and stuff, you know... Godo grades... Their attitude..."
Joe turned to him, "That's not all you're worried about. Honestly, that's far from what you're worried about."
I quickly tensed up, feeling the path this conversation was leading to.
Nick let out a huff, "OK, fine, I'll admit, I'm not so sure I even care to think about those things 'cause I know that this kid is gonna do good... but the real thing is if I wanted a life with... you know, Kendall."
This is where it's at, I told myself, clenching my fists.
"Come on, you love her," Joe said in a painful voice.
Nick groaned, "That's exactly what I'm worried about, 'cause I don't even know if I do or not. Yes, I... I care for her, but only because of the baby."
I couldn't take it anymore. I was rasping for breath as the urge to cry was unbearable.
I ran, accidentally pulling the trash can with me. I also made a note to myself, saying that I would never— EVER speak to that son of a bitch again.
