Avery's POV
I slowly opened my eyes to the sight of a sleeping jay.
He was laying beside me and considering the size of our couch there wasn't too much space yet we made it fit.
I glanced at the wall clock and saw that it was currently 9 pm.
I should get up, I thought
But before I did, I couldn't help but examine his features.
He seemed so peaceful sleeping. I unconsciously smiled as I slowly poked his cheeks.
Okay, time to get up.
I was about to get up but got startled by a pair of arms that took hold of me, pulling me close.
"Let's stay like this for a while" Jay spoke with his morning voice and I allowed myself to relax a bit.
I later hugged him back and we stayed that way.
Once we broke the hug we both sat up. I started rubbing my eyes, still a little sleepy.
"I'm sorry"
Jay spoke which resulted in me looking at him.
Right. Here comes the talk
I looked away
"I'm sorry for leaving you that night. I was caught up in a scheme and I'll forever regret that I left you"
A scheme? Did he get fooled?
"I'd never leave you if it was for something stupid. I'd never leave you in thin air like that. If you're still upset with me, then that's okay take all the time you need, but know that it was never my intention to hurt you"
"I'd never hurt you"
I looked at him and felt how genuine his words are.
I smiled "It's okay. I'm sure you had your reasons. I guess I just needed a little time but I'm no longer upset
"Are you sure?"
"Mhm"
He smiled widely and celebrated at his seat before hugging me again.
"I'm glad"

"Okay, your turn," I said as I successfully removed a wooden block and placed it at the top as we played the game of Jenga.
"Done," he said as he played his turn
I looked at the pile of blocks before deciding to take out one. Unfortunately once I did the pile of blocks collapsed
"Noo!" I said in horror
Jay laughed and raised his hands high "I WIN! you know what that means" he raised a brow
I coughed in an exaggerating manner "I'm still sick though" acting cutely as I slump down on my seat
"We checked your temperature earlier, you're fine," he said not buying it.
I sighed before getting up "Fine, I'll wash the dishes" I rolled my eyes
He laughed and clapped his hands happily before seating on the couch about to watch a show.
I glared at him and stuck my tongue out at him then started to lazily walk to the kitchen.

I just placed the last dish in the dish drainer and wiped my hands.
I'm finally done! I smiled at myself and later headed to the living room.
"You know, it's very rude of you to let me do house chores just when i started to feel better-"
I halt the moment I reached the living room at the sight.
"Surprise!" he smiled
I looked around and saw the familiar decorations decorated near the fireplace.
The petals, the fairy lights, all the other decorations I prepared for my surprise that night.
"Isn't that?"
"I went back to you that night but unfortunately, you were no longer there." he started
"I didn't want your efforts to go to waste so I thought I'd keep them and surprise you instead"
I felt like crying. He's so thoughtful.
"You're unfair" I pouted
"This is supposed to be my surprise but now you're making it yours"
"It's still your surprise, it was just a little delayed"
"It isn't the same anymore!"
"I can act surprise if u want to" he insisted
I laughed at him "It's okay"
"Here take a seat. I'll be back" he guided me to the same cloth I sat on waiting for him that night.
He went to the kitchen for a while and later came back with 2 cups of tea.
"This is for you" he handed me a cup
"I know that your fever has calmed down, but you do still have flu and colds. A warm cup of tea would be comforting" he said as he grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around me, making sure I'm warm.
After he did that, he sat across from me and he took a sip from his tea while i did the same.
"I know it might be hard, but think of this as your surprise"
I looked at him confused
"Do as you wished you did that night"
"I might not have been there, but I'm here now" he smiled
I looked at him and felt my heart flutter. If I were to do as I wished then it means I'll confess.
I started getting nervous but I calmed down when I saw him smiling at me
This is it. I'm sure he's the man I want to be with. I smiled back.
I cleared my throat before speaking
"Jay there's something I want to tell you" I started
He sat there, waiting patiently.
"Many months back you mentioned how I never once expressed how I felt about you. Back then I had a lot of doubts. I was scared for many reasons, but now.." I locked eyes with him
"all those doubts faded away" I smiled
"I'm bad at expressing myself, but I do know how to write" I raised a brow
he looked at me curiously as he watched me take out my phone
"I had this written in a paper but I lost it on the way home from prom, so please bear with me," I said nervously opening up the notes app
He chuckled "Take your time"
I cleared my throat once again and looked at him
"Here's what I feel about you, so listen carefully" I smiled
"I was once a child stashing in its shell
Until one smashed those walls and held me oh so well
You make my days better with a single smile
Even more when you do the little things every while
I feel my cheeks flush at the thought of you
When you take my hand my heart flutters too
I hurt whenever you hurt
And my eyes shine for you even when you're at your worst

I slowly closed my phone and looked at him.
He was teary-eyed and I later saw how a tear rolled down his cheek.
"Oh no, what's wrong? Was it something I said?"
He wiped his tears and smiled at me "No, I'm just really happy"
"I'm so happy" he repeated as he hugged me
I hugged him back and rested my chin on his shoulder. Our hearts beating loud enough for us both to hear.
"If only I didn't leave that night we would be official for 2 weeks now," he said sadly
I chuckled as I let go of him "We're not even official"
"Then let's make it official," he said holding my hands.
My cheeks flushed as my heart was fluttering
"Avery, will you-"
"Yes!"
"I didn't finish my-"
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" I repeated
He pinched my nose which resulted in me laughing.
"Avery, will you be my girlfriend?"
I interlocked our hands "Yes"
He cupped my cheeks and leaned in but before he could kiss me I blocked it with my hand
"I'm sick, you might get contaminated"
"I don't care if you're sick, I'll still kiss you" he gently removed my hand that was in the way and placed a peck on my lips.
I smiled, my cheeks flushed
"Again, totally worth it" he smiled.

After the heartfelt conversation ended, we stood up from our seats and slow danced to a song.
It was part of my surprise and since he told me to do as I wished that night, he agreed to dance with me.
I had my arms around his shoulder as he had his around my waist.
I rested my head as we slow danced to the song that played.
"This would have been way better in the beachside" I shared
"But instead we're here near the fireplace with a cup of tea and a stuffed nose." I sniffed
he laughed "I wouldn't have it any other way" he placed a kiss on my forehead.
I'm so happy. my heart is happy.
"Avery"
"Hmm?"
"That day we wished on a wishing star, I wished that you'd meet and end up with a man who makes you feel secure and loved. Even if that man isn't me. Did you meet him?"
"It's a little too late to wish for that"
"How come?"
"Because I already met him when I was 9 and he's made me feel the safest and loved ever since"
