"Scott," said Peter.

"Yes, Spidey?"

"Why are you still a hero?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well it's not like you have any powers..."

"I can shrink!"

"Your suit can shrink. And it took Tony 30 seconds to make ones for the whole team."

"Yes, but- but- I can use it better!"

"Prove it."

"How?"

"Let me have a go."

"No! It wouldn't even fit you!"

"It's a shrinking suit. I'm sure I could make do."

"No."

"Fine."

Peter tried to keep his breathing even as he slowly lowered himself down from where he clung to the ceiling. He could hardly believe it had worked. Scott hadn't even noticed him as he'd walked underneath the spider sticking to his ceiling and left his room, locking the door behind him. Leaving the ant man suit behind.

Peter hurried across the room and started releasing the suit from its stand. Hope would distract Scott for as long as she could (she owed him one from last week) but Peter still wanted to get this over with as soon as possible.

The suit came free in his arms and he staggered a little under its surprising weight. He hoisted it in his arms, then laid it out on the floor and tried to work out how it opened. Eventually he found a zip, and pulled the suit on over his clothes.

Scott has been right - it was too big. That was annoying in several ways - one because Peter liked being right, and two because his escape plan involved shrinking. He'd have to work out another way past the locked door.

Suddenly, his phone started ringing. He scrambled to pull off the suit and grab it out of his pocket, but by the time he managed it it was far too late. Instead he saw a missed call and text from Hope.

Sorry peter, Scott is too suspicious of me after the prank last week. He's already on his way back.

Peter bit his lip and fired off a text to Natasha.

Scott on way back. Distract him after he opens door plz. IOU.

There was no reply. Peter just had to hope she'd see it in time. But first...

Peter grabbed at the forearm of the suit, where the screen was. It lit up when he tapped it, full of symbols he didn't know. It couldn't be too hard if Scott could work it, right?

Peter swept his finger around a blue dial in the middle of the screen, and the suit inflated until Peter was squished against a wall, arms barely able to wrap around the massive forearm.

"Other way," he muttered, struggling to draw breath, and a moment later the suit was doll-sized, sitting in the palm of his hand. He slipped it into his pocket just as footsteps sounded from the hall. Hastily, Peter crept up the wall and flattened himself on the ceiling.

The door swung open.

Peter's breath caught.

Scott's shadow entered the room.

Then-

"Scott. Can I have a word?"

Peter breathed a sigh of relief.
