Chapter 70: The New Frontier

You and AJ followed Ava. AJ was getting a nasty cough, so you had no choice. You make it to a campsite to see tents and a campfire.

Someone from the campfire stands up and draws their gun at the woods.

Man: Who's there?!

Ava: It's Ava!

Man: Ava! Lower your guns!

You all step out of the woods and into the campsite. A man steps forward.

Man: We were so worried about...

The man notices you and AJ.

Man: What the hell is this?

Ava: David, this is Clementine and AJ. They saved my life.

David steps closer to you.

David: So...YOU saved Ava?

Clem: Uh...yeah.

David squints at you.

David: You with the Saviors?

You raise your eyebrow.

Clem: The what?

David: We got a distress signal from a community called the Saviors. They help us with a bit of stuff, as long as we keep a deal going. Apparently they were burnt to the ground a few months ago by one of their prisoners.

Clem: Sounds rough.

David: Yeah, well, the leader was an asshole.

Ava: So Clem wants to stay--

Clem: Until AJ feels better.

Ava: Yeah, right. Anyways, her kid's a little sick. She just wants to get him fixed.

David: Well, Clementine, that's not how we do things here.

Clem: What?

David: If you want our help, then you'll have to join us.

Clem: I just want to get--

David: I know. But we look after our own. So either you join us...or you leave.

You look down and you sigh in defeat. You look up at David.

Clem: What do I have to do?

They bring you to a chair.

David: Sit.

You sit down.

David gestures for someone to get you something. A man in sunglasses walks up to you with a belt. He puts the belt in front of your mouth.

David: You're gonna wanna use this.

You bite down on the belt.

A man walks up to you with some sort of hot cattle brand.

Ava rolls up your sleeve. Ava looks up at you.

Ava: You ready?

You nod.

David looks at the man with the cattle brand.

David: Do it.

You scream as you feel the skin on your arm burn.

A few days later
They didn't give AJ any medicine. They said that "they did all they could," but you know that's bullshit.

You crouch walk, while holding AJ. You peek around a few boxes to see everyone distracted by David at the campfire.

Clem whisper: We're gonna get you the medicine you need, AJ. I don't care what they say.

AJ coughs.
