"There was something almost ritualistic about it. Like it was looking right into his soul." Argent spoke. Turns out, he'd come into contact with these creatures some years ago.
"It's the same thing it did to me." Isaac said, rubbing the five marking behind his ear.
"That's what they did to everyone." Allison said, cleaning the wound from her father's head.
"Not everyone." Scott shook his head. "They only came after the Werewolves.
"And Lydia." I reminded him.
"Anyone with a connection to the supernatural." Argent confirmed.
"Then who was the guy they went after in Japan?" Isaac asked.
"A Kumicho, a Yakuza boss. It was my first gun deal. I was only eighteen, and it was supposed to be a simple exchange... except Gerard left out the minor detail of the buyers being Yakuza. He wanted to see if I could adapt in the moment. Testing my ability to, uh... improvise."
"Or, your ability to survive." Allison commented.
"The moment the sun came down, it was like they just materialized out of the shadows." Argent went on. "They had swords- not curved like katanas, but straight, black steel, like ninjatos."
"What did they want?" Isaac asked.
"To get to the Kumicho. They cut down every living thing in their way." He said quietly. I could see the trauma in his eyes, trying to remember the event.
"Did they mark him like they did us?" Isaac asked.
"Not exactly..." Argent shook his head.
"What was he?" Scott asked.
"I don't know. But, there might be someone who does. There were a few others who survived that night. One of them was a man named Katashi. They called him Silverfinger because of an unusual prosthetic... and it looked like he was getting ready to take them all on himself. I've known for a while that Katashi was in the country. I spent yesterday tracking him down."
"Didn't look like he wanted to be found." Isaac said, his eyes flicking to the cut on his forehead.
"Not particularly, no." Argent said.
"You think he knows what they are? Or what they want?" Scott asked.
"Maybe." Argent answered simply.
"What if he doesn't wanna talk?" Allison questioned.
"What if he doesn't even remember you?" Isaac asked.
"He'll remember this." Argent opens a wooden box that had been on his desk. He flipped a piece of cloth out of the way, revealing broken pieces of a mask. The same masks the men had. "I know I didn't kill it, I'm not sure you can. But I slowed it down long enough for us to get out of there."
Scott picked up one of the pieces, examining it carefully. "What was behind the mask?" I asked.
"Darkness." Argent said. "Absolute darkness."
☾
We had till nightfall. Then those masked creatures were coming after us again. They could be going after Scott, or Evan, or Kira, or even me. After seeing how they fought, I wasn't confident we'd be able to hold them off more than a few minutes, not a chance at keeping them away till sunrise.
Scott did have a plan, but we had no idea if it'd work. We needed to check in with Stiles, and fill him in, he'd thankfully left Derek's loft before they attacked. Then we just needed to collect Evan and Kira.
