Maxon pov

I let my hand run over her cheek.

"Good night-er morning? I don't know, just... sleep well. Sweet dreams... partner." I said and heard Amelia faintly say.

"You too...partner". And with that, she was out like a candle.

She looked really cute when she's asleep. All snuggled up in the blankets, very faint snores you could only hear if there was pin-drop silence, the light from the moon hitting her face making it glow. I couldn't help but notice the light spray of freckles on her nose and cheeks. She looks a lot like America...

'No stop Maxon. America is gone and she's not coming back. Move on from her. That's what America would've wanted'.

I scolded myself in my head. I just couldn't help but compare the similarities. They just looked so much alike. I gave her a quick kiss on the forehead cause I can and left. I hastily went into Amelia's room to commence the search for her necklace. The only issue is, I have no clue whatsoever how the necklace looks or possible places it could be. I'll just look for all the necklaces I can find and hope one of them is hers. As I searched, I found some pictures of America with her family.

I know that they were really close but why would she have a picture of America's family? And why isn't there any of the two together? In the pile of pictures, I found a bundle of cloth. I unwrapped it and found a necklace with a silver bird pendant.

'Wait wasn't this America's? Why does Amelia have it?'

I didn't put too much thought into it knowing that they were childhood friends. Quickly running to the room Amelia was in, I put the necklace on the side table with a little note

I'm assuming this is the necklace you were talking about. I told you I'd find it. You're welcome ;).

P.s. when you see this note, come to my office, please.

~ Maxon

Once finished with that, I quietly closed the door and went to my own room for some sleep. I was unbearably tired, and it was about 5:30 am. If I sleep now, I could probably get a good 4 hours of sleep at least. Wasting no time, I changed into comfier clothing which was just a tee and some sweatpants, then walked to my bed which thankfully, was empty. Kriss was most likely in her room but I was too tired to check on her. I called a maid to check on her and as I thought, she was there.

As I laid on my bed, I thought about the extreme similarities between Amelia and America. Could they be sisters? Or maybe long-lost twins Who consider each other best friends rather than siblings? Or or or, what if she's an America doppelganger?? no, that highly unlikely. I'll just ask her later.

I felt the sleep slowly taking over and soon was sleeping with Amelia on my mind.

America pov

Maxon and I were walking hand in hand around the gardens, just like we always did. It was spring so all the flowers were blooming, and it was an amazing sight to see. We walked over to our bench and sat down still hand in hand. I glanced at him only to find him already staring back. I smirked.

"Take a picture, it lasts longer". He chuckled at my comment and kissed my forehead.

"Whatever you say." And out of nowhere, he pulled out his camera

. He let go of my hand and angled his camera Towards me.

"Smile" click.

The flash from the camera was so blinding it took a second to regain focus. When I did, I looked up at Maxon, only the thing was that Maxon was nowhere to be seen. I stood up running all over the place searching for him, but I only ended up in front of a door. I slowly opened it and I saw

'YOU THOUGHT WE WEREN'T GONNA COME BACK DIDNT YOU HAHAHAHA' on the wall in red.

Beside it stood Maxon who had a spear lodged in his chest. There was blood all over the floor and the walls. I looked at my hands only to see more blood on them. I ran out of the room only to see that there were people dying all over the place. Southern rebels running all over with daggers, guns and spears and then there was one rebel that pointed at me with his gun. He gave me the most malicious grin and pulled the trigger.

BOOM

I jerked out of bed panting as tears fell out of my eyes. This was the worst one yet. I wasn't getting night terrors that often as I used to, but when I did, they were brutal. I was having trouble breathing. I tried to gasp for air but no matter how much I inhaled; my lungs still felt empty.

I quickly got out of bed and tried to look for a door to a balcony, but there wasn't any. This room was too suffocating so I did the only thing I could, I ran out of the room. I had fallen asleep in my wig and contacts and surprisingly they were still intact. I found the stairs and flew down them trying to find an exit. As I ran, I found the door that led to the garden and ran towards it. Two guards were standing at the door and blocked it with their arms.

"Miss, please go back to your room, right now isn't the time to go into the garden's." The one on the right said. I tried to push past them, but they just wouldn't budge.

"Please... let me go!" I gasped. One of the guards grabbed my right arm and the other grabbed my left arm.

"I can't breathe!" I sobbed. "Miss! Please don't make us use force! We don't want to cause a commotion at this time! You'll wake his maj-"

"Let her go." A voice said. The guard's heads whipped towards the sound of the new voice and their eyes widened when they realized who it was.

"B-but your majesty, she-" the guard tried to say.

"Let her go," Maxon said calmly interrupting the guard. Both guards dropped my arms and I dashed out the door.

I ran as fast as I could, feeling the rough path cut into my feet. I fell to my knees once I found a bench and sobbed my heart out.

"Amelia, are you okay?" Maxon asked. I shook my head. "Would you like to talk about it?" Again, I shook my head.

What was I supposed to tell him? Oh, you know, just had a nightmare where you and I were together, and you ended up dying with a spear in your chest? Not happening.

"All right," he said sitting on the bench, placing my head that was on the bench against his leg and stroking my hair.

No matter how wrong this was, it felt so right. I closed my eyes, concentrating on my breathing and Maxon's hand gently stroking my head. Soon enough I stopped crying and I was a lot calmer than before.

"I feel like this place is like a big cage," I mumbled. Maxon's hand froze. I lifted my head only to see Maxon staring at me wide-eyed.

"Amer-" he tried to say but he was cut off by a guard running and yelling.

"Your Highness! Your Highness!" He yelled stopping in front of us.

"What is it?" He said looking lost in thought. I simply looked down not knowing what to do. "Her highness queen Kriss has committed treason and has been sentenced to execution." He said. Both of our heads snapped up at the guard.

"What?! What did she do?" He asked completely surprised by what was just said.

"She's the leader of the southern rebels."
