Sophie awoke with a start, gripping Fitz's arm.She stared straight out in front of her as she listened. She heard a sound coming from somewhere underneath them in the house. Fitz woke up and looked at her. "What's wr-" he started. "Shh. Do you hear that?" She put a finger gently to his mouth. He listened carefully. There was a crash and someone yelled. "Keefe!" Sophie groaned. Fitz got up. "I'll go kick them out." Sophie laid an arm on his arm. "Take it easy on them." Fitz nodded. "I'll try." Sophie laid back down and Fitz threw on a shirt. He walked downstairs and flipped on a light. He found his sister and friends staring at him. "What is wrong with you" he yelled. "Sophie was scared to death. I'm lucky she didn't cut off my blood flow with how hard she was gripping my arm!" Biana threw a glare in Keefe's direction. "We're sorry Keefe woke you." Keefe's head snapped over to her. "Me! This was your idea!" Tam glared at him. "Don't yell at her. Your the one that woke them up." Fitz shook his head. "Sophie heard the door open and about a minute later we heard a crash and Biana yell out Keefe's name." Biana Hung her head. Tam wrapped an arm around her and she leaned into him. "You guys need to leave. This is ridiculous. I mean why are you even here?" Dex glared at him. "To see if the rumors were true." Of course Sophie had to come down at that exact moment. "What rumors?" Biana glared at Dex. "I offered a compromise for Dex because he apparently believed them." Fitz and Sophie looked at him. "What rumors?" Dex glared harder at Fitz. "Ask him." Sophie turned to Fitz and looked him in the eyes. "He doesn't know what they are." Fitz looked at her quizzically. "How did you know?" She smiled. "Because I know you." She turned back to her friends. "I will ask one more time. What rumors?" Biana hung her head. "I don't believe them and neither do a lot of people unless you can guess which people might actually believe them, but someone started something up that Fitz was only with Sophie so he can scout her out for the council and that he will eventually leave and another one is that Sophie gave him a love elixir so he loves her." Sophie didn't even look at Fitz. She didn't need to. "Well Stina can go and try to ruin my life but she's fairly bad at it. It's rather hilarious." Dex looked at her. "How do you know Fitz isn't scouting you out?" She glared at him. "Why don't you trust him? Now. I want everyone out of my house now or you will see what Fitz means by I'm a bear when you wake me up in the middle of the night for some stupid reason." Biana and Keefe stared. Then everyone quickly shuffled out of the house. Sophie rolled her eyes and she and Fitz went back to bed. Sophie curled up next to Fitz and he held her. "Would you really go after them?" Sophie sighed. "I don't really know the honest answer to that. I'm mad at Dex for believing Stina and I'm mad at Stina for starting those rumors. I'm annoyed that they got into our house, which by the way, we will need to fix that. I'm worried about what Keefe could do if he was able to get in here, and what if the Neverseen got in? What if Keefe decided to go back to the Neverseen?" Fitz ran his ahnd up and down her arm. "I won't let anything happen to you. I will always keep you safe." He kissed the top of her head and Sophie smiled. She loved how he knew how to cheer her up. She wanted to keep him safe. She felt selfish for thinking this, but she would be able to live if one of her friends or family died if it meant Fitz could stay. If he wasn't there the she didn't know what she would do. But she still felt sick to her stomach with that selfishness. She didn't want anyone to die. She sighed and closed her eyes. "What's going in in that pretty little head of yours?" Sophie opened her eyes. Fitz was stroking her hair and she sat up. "Honestly? I have no clue." He sat up and she laid into him. He continued to stroke her hair. "What are you thinking?" Sophie felt bile rise to her throat. "Something I shouldn't be. It's really selfish and I don't know why I thought of it because it's not right." She felt tears start to spill out of her eyes and her voice started to thicken. Fitz held her close. "Soph, anything you might consider selfish probably isn't that big of a deal." He waited patiently for her to speak again. "I thought that I would be ok if one of the others died instead of you, but I don't want them to die Fitz. I feel really guilty and sick to my stomach at just the mere thought that that thought would ever come to my mind. I don't want anyone to die. But I'm not even sure of what I want anymore. The only things I know for a fact is that I can't live without you and it would a long long life without the others, possibly even leading to the will not to live if you weren't around." Fitz felt a small smile tug at the corners of his mouth. He loved hearing Sophie talk about much she lived him. He loved that he made her heart flutter and stomach do flip flops the way she makes his do the same. But he couldn't help but feel sorry for her. She always felt guilty for things like these. But he knew that he couldn't live without her. She was the reason he woke up in the morning. Reason he smiled everyday since Alvar reveled his true identity. He held her tighter. "Fitz?" "Mm?" He looked down at her beautiful face. It held sorrow and hope. "Do you still love me after what I just said? Because selflessness was one of the reasons you liked me, and I just gave you are reason not to." Fitz watched has the hope she had laced through her features shrunk more and more as she waited for an answer. "Soph, I will love you long after I die." Sophie's face lit up with her smile. His eyes rested their gaze in her lips and she slowly leaned in. He leaned down and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and his hands moved to her waist. She slowly broke the kiss and he kept his eyes closed. She giggled and kissed him again. She could feel his body shake with laughter as she did so and he quickly responded to her kiss by kissing back. This time he was the one to break the kiss and she smiled at him. He picked her up and set her on his lap. He leaned back against the pillows and she laid her head in his shoulder. He turned on the tv and she closed her eyes. All of her memories flashed across her mind. The fights they had about the other not being allowed to do something because it was to dangerous, the times where they comforted each other, those times where they laughed and played together and their friends. But the memory that stayed the longest and repeated over and over in her head was when Fitz had said "no matter what happens Sophie, I will always stay by your side and will love you for years to come." She was laying on a blanket with him in a meadow gazing at the stars. They were doing their elementalism homework and they decided to stay out a bit longer. She had a strange but great feeling that bubbled in her stomach and she actually believed him. She wouldn't have believed Keefe or Dex, possibly Linh, Tam or Marella. She and Keefe were on rough times and Dex didn't like that's he was hanging out with him more. Marella and her really weren't friends, they were still mending their last friendship with each other, and Linh had been distant when she found out that Sophie liked Fitz. But Linh had really been distant because she knew that Fitz had liked Sophie and to hear her make his dream come true was rough. But she and Biana were getting along just fine. But Fitz, it sent tingles throughout her body and she felt something snap together like a missing piece was just connected with the rest of the puzzle. Ever since then, she had felt different around him. She reached for his hand more, she leaned on him more. She fell straight into his arms without hesitation when she needed to. She even gave a bit of her burden to him. But what she didn't know was that subconsciously she knew that he would love her as in an actual relationship but consciously she didn't think that he meant it that way. She thought that he just meant as friends, or as he had said years ago, a sister. But now, hearing what he had said to her that night, she knew what he had meant. She smiled in her sleep and the rest of the night went by faster than she knew.
