Chapter 12

I woke up to see Aaron hovering over me. When he saw I was up he whispered, “I was going to go to the bathroom.”

I laughed and nodded. He continued trying to climb over me only to get his foot trapped in the covers. He swore and then fell on top of me. I had to cover my mouth to stop myself laughing out loud but I couldn’t stop. Aaron joined in too we were frantically trying to shush each other.

I tried to move to the side to get him off but I overestimated how far away from the side of the bed I was and started falling off the side. Aaron grabbed my hand which slowed my fall slightly but I still ended up on my ass. I was still laughing and just lay there.

“Are you okay?”

I nodded.

“I think I get why you don’t like sharing beds.”

For some reason this made me laugh more and Aaron looked at me oddly, “Are you high?”

“I think I’m high on like… Wales.”

We got dressed and then met downstairs again.

“Did you sleep well, Anais?” Aaron’s Mum asked

“Yes thank you.”

“Were you warm enough?”

I shot a look at Aaron and smiled, “Yeah, plenty warm.”

“Are you going to take Anais into town today?”

“I guess,”

“Well can you pick some things up for Christmas lunch for me?”

An hour or so later we arrived in the town centre. “Is this it?” I asked.

“Uh yeah.”

“It’s er cute.”

“That’s just a nice way of saying it’s small.”

“Pretty much yes but I’m a London girl so anything seems small.”

We went into a supermarket and picked up the stuff for lunch tomorrow and when we got outside it started raining so we found a cafe to sit inside.

People kept coming up to Aaron and shaking his hand.

“So does like everyone in Caerphilly know you?”

“Pretty much.”

Aaron’s phone went off and he apologised and took the call outside. I could see him through the window nervously touching his face. He was talking for a long time.

When he came back in he took a deep breath. “That was the boss. He wants me to go on loan again.”

Nottingham again? Well that’s not too long on the train I thought to myself.

“I’m going to be in Cardiff.”

“Cardiff?”

“For a month… possibly the rest of the season.”

I sighed and put my head against his chest. “What are you thinking Anais? Help me out.”

“Well. You get to play which is good. And you love Cardiff which is also good. And you’ll be close to home…”

“I asked how you felt.” He emphasised the you.

“I feel… like getting up and doing more shopping.”

Before Aaron could complain about me avoiding the question I was up and out of the cafe. It wasn’t because I didn’t care but because I realised I cared too much.
