Mordecai perceived all that was done.  He rent his clothes and put on sackcloth with ashes,  then he went into the mist of the city,  and cried with a bitter and loud cry;  some came before the King's gate:  for no one could enter the gate clothed in sackcloth.

The King's commandment and his decree came,  there was great mourning among the Jews,  with weeping,  fasting,  and wailing;  Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told her.  The Queen was grieved;  As she sent clothes to Mordecai.  To take away his sackcloth.  But he did not receive it.

So Esther called for one of his chamberlains and gave him a commandment to Mordecia.  To know what it was and why it was.  Mordecai commanded to answer Esther.  Thou shall escape in the King's house,  more than all the Jews.  If thy hold the peace at this time,  then shall deliverance arise to the Jews from another place.  But you and your father's house will be destroyed:

Esther told the messengers to return Mordecai this message.  Gather all the Jews and fast for me and do not eat or drink for three days,  night or day.  I and my maidens will also fast.  I will go to the King,  according to the law:  If I perish,  so be it.
