I walk through the woods behind the meeting building and to the clearing, the log cabin sitting on the corner of the clearing - my destination. I look up at the leaves of the tress and feel a rush of joy, bringing me back to when I was little. As I approach the cabin, a string of foreign memories flashback to me, memories about accomplishment, success, and failure from different people.
People that I hate.
Sure I had my voice, personality, and memories swapped with them but did that change anything about how I look at them?
No, at least it fueled the flame called hate.
I stop at the cabin door and reach my hand out for the door, my hand freezing on the handle. Something was pulling me back - or trying to - but it was foreign, the feeling the only thing holding me back. I take a quick glance around feeling an another sensation - the feeling of being watched - before I push down the handle, entering the cabin.
My eyes catch a bright flash before I feel my environment spin around me, my sense of direction going haywire. I feel wind being blown on me and feel weightlessness before I feel my balance coming back to me. I look around the new environment and see the place I need to go.
I walk to the front office and see Sol (also known as Sim, Sol is her nickname) working on paperwork and typing rapidly, a plague above her work place. I knock on the door and Sol looks up, her flaming red hair not matching her baby blue eyes. She signals me to come in and I open the glass door, stepping onto the carpet.
"So your here for an appointment?" Sol asks as I nod. "It's with me and Pyro am I correct?"
I nod again as a boy, no older than 10, walks in, his red eyes and red clothes catching my eyes.
"Alright let's begin."
---
I lift up a soda bottle mentally and place it beside me as I eat popcorn, looking over DNA. This can't be right, one complete pair of DNA being able to switch into another? It's just not right, I think to myself as a toggle with the DNA on the screen. There has to be a way for this to be physically possible.
"Hunter?"
I turn my chair around to see Ella in the doorway, her hand shaking along with her leg. She walks in and I embrace her in a hug, her hair a mess as she places her head on my shoulder. I take a breath in and pat her back, trying to calm her down before she starts to cry.
"Can-can y-you ch-ange my-my person-ality?" she asks as she stand straight up. "Just a little?"
I think for a second before a shake my head. "What happened?"
"I was writing in my journal when flashbacks started to happen."
I look up at her. "What were they about?"
"Me becoming a Hybrid, you when you were turned into one, when we become Polybrids, my fear."
I bit my lip, I just wanted to say "everything is going to be alright" but I know it isn't - not in the current state we're in. "Just don't get to focused on them, it's almost EFTC time."
"But I don't want to be like this, I want to be more like you or Josie or anyone else."
I shake my head. "I like you how you are and if you had some of my personality, it would drive me crazy. Trust me, your perfect the way you are."
Zap comes in and starts to pant, his lungs struggling to collect air, wheezes coming out of his mouth. He reaches for my soda and I give it to him, his face bright red. He sits down on my bed and flops over. His eyes are alert when he sits up, the green almost glowing like neon.
"We have a problem," he says. "A major problem."
---
Pyro sits beside Sol, the two talking to each other in hushed voices, clearly not wanting me to know what they are saying. I was nervous, like someone knew I betrayed them though I had looked around before going into the cabin. I shake my head, trying to rid myself of the former loyalty to the superhero group since I was now the bad guy.
Or girl.
"Gaby, you have to answer these questions truthfully in order for us to even think about you joining our business," Sol says.
"Alright," I reply. "I will try my best to be honest."
Pyro giggles. "I would like to quote my friend Yoda, 'do and do not - there is no try.'"
"Then I would like to take back my words. 'I will do my best to be honest."
"Back to the point, why do you want to join us?" Sol asks.
I have no hesitation. "Because I hate them."
Both of them laugh. "You do realize that hate is a strong word. What do you mean by hate, miss?"
We start to dive into conversation, questions for me bouncing off rapidly while I struggle to answer. They keep trying to say that all I am is jealous but I'm not, I just want to be more powerful which isn't jealously - it's just a purpose on why I want to join with HA. After a few minutes to an hour, all we had accomplished was the opinion that I was jealous.
"So?" I spoke up suddenly.
"So what?" Pyro said.
"Did I pass your 'test?'"
"Really your asking that? Even the fool could tell the answer was no. Thank you for wasting our time," Sol said as the wind came back, teleporting me back to the cabin.
---
I heard the main and only entrance to the building open up, the squeaking of the door echoing through the building. I sprint out of the training room at full force and see Gaby, her expression showing on of being shocked. Ella and Zap come up behind me and we stare at her.
"So Hunter, what are we going to do to poor Gaby for the small mistake she did?" Zap mockingly asks, sarcasm dripping in his voice as I smile a little.
"We question her on her whereabouts," I say as I feel pressure on my mind, Gaby in her troop form. "You really think you can play that on us? You picked the wrong people to fight with using mind reading."
I hold Gaby in the air using telekinesis, my grip not letting up on her. I see Zap run around in a circle under her while Ella flies under her, creating a stream of water from Gaby and Zap who's hair is starting to collect static and electronic charge. Of course, I think, lightning travels on water.
Just in a blink of an eye, I hear a sizzle and see Gaby's hair sticking up in an afro, her hair touching the ceiling. Now everyone in the building is watching us as I hear Zap mentally cussing Gaby out. I lower Gaby and slam her against the marble wall, knocking her unconscious.
