3rd P.O.V

when it came to crushes, ashton was a little inexperienced. it was very rare for him to develop feelings for someone else since he loved himself so much but when he did, he was never good at it.

he acted like a middle school boy, pretending to hate her so no one would suspect him of liking her. but, then again, the last time he liked a girl was back in middle school.

he knew y/n was in his english class and for once in his life, he decided to get to class early to sit at her seat. it was the only way he could approach her without looking desperate since people already knew that he got rejected- which really bruised his ego, how on earth did he get rejected by a nobody?

ashton saw y/n walk in and quickly plugged in his earphones even though he had no music playing. he intensely watched her walk up to him with a confused frown, "what are you doing in my seat?" she scrunched up her nose and crossed her arms in the most adorable way.

"i don't see your name on it," he shrugged in a childish manner, luckily for the two, no one was there yet since they were ten minutes early.

"whatever," she let out a loud groan and dramatically rolled her eyes, storming up to the other side of the room.

ashton frowned, he was a little disappointed and wasn't expecting her to give up so quickly. "so, why are you here so early?"he asked, casually tapping his pencil on the desk.

"why are you here so early?" she shot back, raising an eyebrow at him.

"touche," he mumbled and looked down at his yellow pencil. he suddenly felt shy and awkward as the awkward silence grew between them.

ashton never felt shy in his life.

"so are you dating liam?" ashton finally cut off the awkward silence, not being able to bare it any longer.

"liam?" she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "oh you mean luke."

"yeah whatever, him, are you dating him?"

"why do you care?" she said in a mocking tone.

"i don't," he scoffed, although he did.

-

"and then he thought we were dating," y/n laughed as she accepted the books from luke for her to arrange on the bookshelves.

in order for her to get extra credits, she had to volunteer for many activities such as being library assistance every friday after school and luke always offered to help her. it was like their little tradition now, spend one hour at the library putting books on shelves and then grabbing dinner at the local pizza place.

"i mean, that's crazy, we're just friends, i don't know why everyone assumes we're dating. you don't like me, i don't like you!" she continued before luke could even speak, jamming a book in the little space before pushing the trolley to the next aisle.

"actually..." luke bit his lip and stopped handing out the books to her, getting y/n's full attention.

"what?" she frowned, laying down the thick history textbook, "do you have something to tell me?"

"it's a bad timing.. never mind," he hurriedly shook his head and handed her a random book from the trolley.

"no tell me," she frowned, not tearing her eyes away from him as she placed the book in the incorrect section.

"it's... it's stupid-"

"luke, just tell me."

"it's bad timing-"
