Chapter 21

The wedding was only 3 weeks away and surprisingly everything was planned and ready, aside from Heidi's dress. She was dreading going dress shopping because she had to leave the safety of the compound to do it.

"You ready to go, sugar?" Steve asked sweetly, rubbing her back lightly. He knew she was uneasy about being out in New York but he was willing to do anything to keep her safe and to make her feel safe. Tony had found a dress shop that was locally owned. He bought out the place for the entire day and Steve, Sam and Tony did a thorough sweep of the building last night. Steve also had 20+ SHIELD agents coming to keep an eye on the entire street.

"Yeah, I'm ready. Where's Wendi?" Heidi asked as the two got in the elevator to head down to the common floor.

"Tony just told me he went to grab her from security." Steve reassured her.

"Oh she's gonna love that. She's gonna freak out to everyone." Heidi said with a small laugh. "You guys fascinate her."

"So she's not meeting your fiance is she? She's meeting Captian America?" Steve asked with a small laugh, Heidi looked up at him apologetically and nodded, "Yes, I'm sorry."

"Don't be, If I wasn't prepared to deal with this I would've put a mask on my suit." Steve joked.

"Yeah, from the rest of the world, not your fiances best friend." Heidi said with a small sigh.

"It's okay, she just needs to get used to me first." Steve promised.

"I hope so. So who's all coming?" Heidi asked, she knew Steve had a plan and she trusted him, but she couldn't help but be curious.

"Tony, Thor, Sam, Clint, Peter and myself are all going to be there. Plus about 20 SHIELD agents will be on the street keeping an eye out. I wont let anything happen to you." Steve promised her.

"Wow, they all agreed to come? Just to stand outside so I don't have a nervous breakdown? Why..." Heidi asked shyly.

"Because we all love you, we don't want anything to happen to you and we don't want you to worry." Steve answered with a smile.

When they exited the elevator they saw Wendi being escorted in by Tony, she looked starstruck, hanging onto every word he said. Heidi couldn't help but laugh.

"Heidi! Oh my gosh hi!" Wendi beamed as soon as her and Steve got off the elevator, rushing to her and pulling her into a tight hug. Once the hug was over she stared up at Steve nervously.

"Steve Rogers." He said with a smile, offering his hand to her. Wendi nervously took it, giving it a weak shake but forgetting to introduce herself. Heidi laughed and let go of Wendi, resuming her place under Steve's arm.

"Steve this is Wendi Parks, my oldest friend." Heidi said, smiling up at Steve.

"It's nice to finally meet you, I'm sorry it's taken so long." Steve said to Wendi who still hadn't said a word to him. Heidi gave her a gentle push which finally snapped Wendi out of her head.

"Yeah, hi, sorry. It's nice to meet you too!" Wendi finally offered.

"Are we ready to go?" Tony said as he impatiently tapped his foot in the doorway.

"Wait, we?" Wendi whispered to Heidi. "Who's all going?" She asked.

"Tony, Peter, Thor, Clint, Sam and of course Steve." Heidi answered. Wendi looked lost.

Heidi rolled her eyes playfully and laughed. "Ironman, Spiderman, Thor, Hawkeye, Falcon and Captian America are all coming with us, Wendi. Keep it together." Heidi teased.

"...Why?" Wendi asked quietly. Heidi forgot she didn't tell Wendi why she quit her job, only that she had done so after a robbery gave her a scare.

"To make sure we're safe. Wendi, that robbery, it wasn't a robbery. They were there to kill me, probably still are." Heidi said nervously, she felt Steve tighten his grip on her, cementing her back to reality and reminding her that she is safe.
