Repentance

It'd caught a bird.

The bird that had dared to use its talons on it.

Natasi's self-satisfied smile made its melting features all the more gruesome as it watched the bird writhe in its attempts to break free of its hold. It gasped and whimpered, tears gathering in its multicolored eyes.

To be honest, Natasi had been reconsidering the decision it'd made. It didn't want to pick a fight with the bird's watcher. It recognized the watcher's power, and it didn't want to start a feud between them.

But the little bird was alone and so utterly tempting. It just couldn't help itself!

Its hair, long, black, and braided, slid over its shoulder as it leaned down to run its fingers through the pale feathers on the bird's head in mock comfort.

"It'll be okay, little one," it whispered, its voice, low and raspy, sounding as though it were being squeezed out from between those jaws of sharp, sharp teeth. "It will all be over soon."

The bird's glassy eyes stared up and passed it as another whimper crawled its way up its pale throat.

It had reconsidered its decision, but repentance was necessary if one were to learn their lesson.
