This feels like it used to. Save for the Mill's manor that stands out like a sore thumb
The troop gathers all together. Mothers tending to their younglings. Males doing what males do, brawl until they have a victor. All in good fun. Younglings doing everything in their power to raise their mother's blood pressure. All in great mischievous fun.
For once, since this curse was enacted, the sun is shining. It feels warm and comforting. There isn't a chilling breeze that lingers down my back. Instead, the breeze circulates like a blanket, contradicting the humidity that's native to the jungle. The air isn't stuffy. I can take in a full breath without hesitation.
It's peaceful.
It feels like home.
Terk and Tantor make the feeling certain. Never did I think I'd have the three of us together again. Terk is on one side and I on the other while we sandwich Tantor between us, though our bodies can't compare to the gigantic form that an elephant naturally is.
However, where we usually talk about our daily activities: the new areas we travel, the food we scavenged, and the troubles we somehow get ourselves into. Instead, we fill our conversation with the time we've spent apart. My years in isolation fill out their months being separated from me. Turns out the Enchanted Forest was larger than I remember. The number of people I've met along the way, and the people I know now. While everything was relatively the same in the jungle, I've had adventures that can fill a lifetime for the average person. The good. The bad. Reminiscing on the past, never would I have thought of the turmoil that led me to this very moment.
Not everything has been easy, though, I admit to them. Where I've had highs that make me forget the tragedy of my past, I've also had lows. I've gained many friends, but there have also been loses.
I can't lie to them. I couldn't tell them that I was happy for most of the years we were separated. There were many days that I missed their presence.
I missed our talks.
I missed this.
This is exactly like old times.
"Honestly, though, you wouldn't believe how many times Ma keeps nagging at me to find a mate," Terk exclaims. Her loud personality can be heard from across the yard, but the troop is immune to it that they can ignore her. "She only wants to get a youngling out of me."
I can't help but snort. "I don't blame you though. There's no way you'd settle down yet"
"What is she thinking though?!" Terk kicks the leaves from under her. "There's no way I'm ready to deal with younglings."
