[Chapter 26] Our Origins

In celebration of the #OnceUponATime season finale, (which was amazing if you have not seen it yet) I posted another lovely chapter for you guys. Maybe in a couple of days, I'll have another one ready for you. We'll see what happens.

~Melody/Tarza Flashback~

Immediately after her encounter with the new humans, Tarza returned to her troop, much to Terk and Tantor's relief. They were just happy not to see a scratch or a bruise on her face or body. Fortunately, no one else seemed to be aware of her absence. But, an hour later, Kerchak calls the troop in for an emergency meeting. Does her father know everything she knows? Does he know that she went to check the new trespassers?

Doesn't matter now; she'll just have to see to find out.

As soon as the troop crowds around their leader, Kerchak immediately went down to business. "Now, most of you have heard the strange noise that exploded throughout the jungle. And, you may have thought that I gathered you all here to deliver some good news, but unfortunately, I have none to deliver."

Murmurs among the crowd began to rise. Tarza's eyes widen. She scans the crowd before looking back up at her father and mother, who was standing beside him; they were doing the same to her.

"Now, now, everyone calm down. I may not have good news, but I do have some precautions that we must take."

The crowd's murmurs dim down.

"From some sources, I was able to find out that humans have stepped foot on the island."

"What?!" someone calls out.

"But, no humans have stepped foot on the island," another comments.

With that, a section of the crowd turns their head towards Tarza's direction, much to her discomfort. Their confusing and frightened gazes had the human girl thinking that they thought she was somehow connected with the trespassers.

"Everyone listen!! It doesn't matter how they got onto the jungle; they're already here as is. But, what we don't know is why they are here."

"Probably because their kind is already here," a voice calls out.

Kerchak's face tenses and his nose flares. "No one is going to be spewing lies about Tarza!!" he roars. "She may look like them but she is one of us, so if you have anything to say, you must say it to me!!"

Utter silence echoes through the crowd.

"Now, until we figure out what these humans want, we must stick together. Even as we begin our freedom, we must continue our ways as if Sabor was still roaming the land. There must be more humans than we believe, and that means more chances of them spotting us. So, for now, no one ventures on their own until this threat is out."

"How long do you expect that will take?" someone in the crowd questions.

"I'm not sure, but I hope, if anything, we can drive them out soon enough. I will not allow history to repeat itself. Now, let us gather our belongings; we shall leave as soon as tomorrow."

With that, he disbands the crowd. Each gorilla walks alongside their family as they travel back to their nests. Tarza, on the other hand, walks towards her parents, while they continued to talk amongst themselves. Kala's discomfort was obvious to her daughter, as much as she wanted to hide it, but Kerchak tried to ease her worry. As soon as the young girl reaches them, they break their conversation before focusing their attention onto their child.
