Drowning..

                           Maya P.O.V
"I think this will be our final stop I think." I say to Lucas.

"Where are we?" He asks.

"I don't really know, but I remember seeing something about a pond/ lake around this area.."

"And that means.." He says.

"That means me and you are going skinny dipping!"

"God no! We are not going skinny dipping!" He says.

"Yes we are! We're doing it Friar."

We get to the pond and it's about 9:00 pm.

He shakes his head. "I'm not doing it."

"Yes you are!" I poke him on the shoulder. "You and me both know you have a soft spot when it comes to me. Now come on let's strip down, we don't even have to take all our clothes off. I'll leave on the underwear and the bra." I say.

He crosses his arms and won't budge.

"Alright suit yourself" I say. I start stripping down to my black undergarments.

"Maya..." He whines.

"Too late, I'm already undressed." I dive into the lake.

It's freezing and I can't touch the bottom.

"Lucas! I can't touch!" I go under then come back up. "I can't touch!" I go down under again. "Please!" I sink down and I don't come back up.

I start to feel hands lifting me up. Of course its Lucas.

He holds me up. I don't open my eyes and I lay limp.

"Maya! Wake up." He says touching my cheek.

I don't open my eyes yet.

"Maya!" He says again. There is panic in his voice.

I open my eyes and start laughing hysterically.

"Why are you laughing? I thought you drowned!" He says.

"I can swim Lucas. I wouldn't jump in here not knowing the risk if I could touch the bottom or not without being able to swim." I say.

"I thought you were drowning! You didn't open your eyes!" He says.

"And you came and saved me. Claps for you. You are a great friend." I exclaim.

"Maya!"

I swim up to him.

" It's okay, I'm okay!"

He doesn't say anything.

I wade around a little bit. "Well this water is too cold. We'll go skinny dipping another time, and the actually skinny dipping with no clothes at all." I say.

I swim and get out, cutting my foot in the process. I lay on my back in the grass. Lucas's shirt and jeans and shoes are beside me. He comes out of the water with just his boxers on.

I pat the spot beside me. He doesn't sit.

I get up. "Listen I'm sorry if I made you mad, I just wanted you to come in the water with me."

He doesn't even look at me as he gets his clothes back on.

"Lucas.."

He starts walking away.

"Lucas!" I limp to him and he finally turns him around.

He immediately starts laughing, he picks me up and spins me around.

"Oh.." I say confused.

"I had fun, although I thought you almost quit on me for a second. I had fun rescuing you. I had fun being with you!" He says.

"Such a different response than I was expecting."

"Come lets go!" He grabs my hand. We try to run but I stop him.

"Ow, ow! My foot. " I say.

He looks at me. "Alright get on my back."

I smile at him. I get on and he hold onto my legs.

"Giddy up Cowboy we have some subways to catch!"

Riley P.O.V

I lay flat in the middle of the poetry aisle. I hear footsteps and they stop in the aisle. I don't have to look to know who it is.

"The course of true love never did run smooth." I quote Shakespeare.

He sits behind me.

"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind." He recites.

I sit up and turn towards him. "You just remember that off the top of your head, I just read mine from a book just now .. "

He nods his head.

"You're weird." I turn and lay down and rest my head in his lap.

"I accept that." He says.

"I give up, I can't write this."

"Fine you can't write it then.." He says.

I shoot up from my sitting position fast. "Yes I can!"

He smiles. "Exactly yes you can. Why are you even worrying about this poem. It's not due till the end of senior year."

"I just want to get it done and over with!" I whine.

"Maybe it's better for you to take your time with this one." He says.

I sigh. Farkle gets a text from his phone and his smile immediately changes.

"I've got to go, I'll see you later." He gets up fast then takes off.
