"Y/n!" Reggie yelled in my ear as I stared at my moms old piano.
"Hm? Sorry Reg."
"It's okay. I ask if you were excited for tonight?"
"Oh, yeah I am! A little nervous but excited." I smiled.
"So am I. Our first real gig since we died." He sounded bittersweet.
"You're gonna kill it. I know it."
"Thanks y/n." He smiled at me. Luke and Alex both flashed in.
"Y/n! Julies coming." Luke spoke first.
"What did you guys do now?"
"We tried getting back at Bobby."
I sighed. "I'm not helping you guys this time." I sat down and crossed my arms.
Julie swung the doors open before yelling at the boys. "You guys better be there tonight!"
"We will, we promise." Luke replied.
"9pm"
"Okay." He nodded.
We all practiced our song lineup for tonight, and Reggie and I kept gravitating towards each other.
After rehearsal I walked over to Reggie, who was putting away his guitar.
"H-hey Reggie. Um, I know technically we're the band at the party but I wanted to know if you wanted to maybe be my date? Or at least dance with me."
Alex Luke and Julie were all staring.
"Wow, yeah I'd love to." He blushed and scratched his neck.
"Okay cool. I should go get ready." I smiled and left.
I went to my room and picked up my dress. It was light purple with blue and pink butterflies on it.
Dad drove us to the party and Julie went to talk to Flynn.
I sat in the back and waited for the boys to show up.
"Y/n, have you seen the band?"
"Not yet but they won't break their promise."
She nodded and went back to fiddling with the projector.
Once it got to be 10pm I gave up on them coming.
"I'm gonna go on home."
"Okay. I'll meet you there later."
I nodded and grabbed my phone. I started to leave when the boys ran in. I made brief eye contact with Reggie as my eyes watered. I noticed Luke looking at Julie, and Alex and Reggie looking at me.
"We are so sorry guys." Luke spoke first.
He went to talk to Julie separately while Alex talked to me.
"We lost track of time."
"Doing what, Alex? Trying to get revenge even though you promised you would be here?" I turned to Reggie. "You weren't there when we needed you."
Reggie stepped forward. "I promise we wanted to be here."
"Then you would've fucking been here Reg!" I said angrily.
He seemed taken aback by my choice of words.
"This was a mistake." I nodded.
"Don't say that-"
"Why not? It was foolish to think that this could work out." I looked down and walked home by myself. When I got to my room, I saw Alex pacing back and forth.
"Alex, hey, sit down. You're getting anxious." we sat on my bed. "What happened?"
"You and Julie both quit the band, that's what's wrong. Luke, Reggie and I feel like crap. I don't know what to do, I cant do anything help." He let out an agitated sigh.
"You guys really let us down tonight. We expected you to be there and you weren't. I'm more upset about Reggie standing me up than the band." I fiddled with the ring my mom got me for my birthday last year.
"Go talk to him. Please. He needs you."
I nodded slowly and stood up, going down to the studio. On my way in, Luke was coming out to talk to Julie.
Reggie had a tear stained face, which broke my heart to see.
I walked over and instinctively tried hugging him.
He closed his eyes for a moment before opening them and hugging me.
"I can actually feel you." He whispered.
I savored the short lived moment while it lasted.
I couldn't feel him anymore and he was a complete ghost again. I sighed heavily.
"I know I let you down y/n I am so sorry. I swear I wanted to be there with you, dance with you and perform with you but we went to this ghost club where people could actually see us and we got to see this crazy, mind blowing performance and we even got to be in it!"
"I'm glad you had fun Reg." I smiled genuinely. "What was it like knowing the living could see you again?"
"It was so amazing." He smiled happily. "And performing for them and actually getting to connect with them and them applauding us. It felt great." He sighed dreamily.
I nodded and smiled kind of sadly. "I'm really happy for you Reggie."
"You don't seem too happy..."
"I am, I just... I wish that you talked about me that way."
"What do you mean?"
"I wish I made you as happy as you are right now. Maybe if I had then you would've chose me and the band. Tonight could have gone so different."
"How so?"
"It doesn't matter anymore. It's in the past. I'm down to continue the band if Julie is."
"Y/n what did you mean?" He stared into my eyes like always.
I sighed and shrugged. "I was gonna kiss you at the end of our set before you would've disappeared."
"Now I really regret not being there."
"Yeah well I guess it just wasn't supposed to happen."
Before I knew it his hand was on my chin and his lips were on mine for a few seconds before I couldn't feel him anymore.
I bit my lip gently. "How the hell are we supposed to do this?" I asked, referring to being in a human/ghost relationship.
"I don't know but we can figure it out together."
I nodded with a small smile. "I really hope Julie forgives you guys."
"Me too."
