Chapter 22: Inheritance

Start from the beginning

"Weak? What is your rank? I saw you making 10 ice spears. Isn't that good?" Max asked.

"I am a D-Rank. I'm not that powerful. My cousins are much stronger. I am the weakest of my family. Father could make 230 ice spears in my age. The strongest in my generation can make 190 ice spears now. I'm really weak." Sylvia said with a sad smile.

Hearing this, Max knew he had to help her. If it weren't for her, Max wouldn't have been able to explore the ruins. Max sighed and took out something.

"I found something in the ruins. I think it might be useful for you." Max said.

"What is it?" Sylvia asked curiously.

Max brought out the [Ice Grimoire] and passed it to Sylvia.

"I found this in the ruins. It contains ice skills of some sort." Max said.

Seeing the grimoire, Sylvia felt a strange connection to it, almost as if it was calling out to her. Sylvia smiled and happily took the grimoire from Max.

"Thank you Max. I really appreciate it." She said.

Max smiled and nodded.

"May I know why you are here?" he asked.

Hearing this question, Sylvia's eyes widened. She wasn't expecting that question.

"I.. just came here to train, that's all." Sylvia said with a blush.

Hearing this, Max smiled.

"Okay. I'll leave you to your training then. I'll place the remaining treasures in the chest and rest a bit." He said with a yawn.

It was already 10 pm and Max was tired. Max wanted to give Sylvia the [Ice Titan's Lifeforce] but decided to give it to Mr. Verglas. Shrugging, he walked into his room and went into the shower.

Max stayed in the shower as he thought about what happened to him in the dungeon.

"Who is King Red? What does the [Orb of War] do?" Max thought.

After the long shower, Max felt quite tired. He slowly climbed onto his bed and went to sleep. Max's eyes closed as he felt sleepier than usual. He wasn't sure why but for some reason he felt that it wasn't normal.

Before he could realise what was happening, his vision darkened...

Max was deep asleep when he forcefully opened his eyes. Max looked around in panic as his current slumber wasn't normal. To his shock, he wasn't even in his bed anymore! Max was in a massive field. What shocked him the most was the fact that there were tons of broken armours, arrows and corpses around him.

Somehow, it looked familiar. After inspecting them and the surrounding armours, it dawned to Max.

"These were the same soldiers that were seen fighting King Red! Am I dreaming now?" Max thought.

"Correct." A voice said from behind him.

Max turned around immediately. He wasn't sure what threat was going to come at him, but he was prepared. He was ready to attack anything that approached him.

"Don't bother fighting. I'm not going to hurt you. If I wanted you would already be dead. Besides, you are my successor aren't you?" the voice said.

Max was greeted to the very same man that he saw in his dream. It was the previous King Red.

"King Red?" Max said.

"Well. Not anymore. I've passed on my powers to you, Max." the man said.

"Why me? Also how do I even use it?" he asked.
