                “Jakey! Skylar!”

Skylar’s bedroom door was flung open. I groaned and buried my face in Skylar’s bare chest, too tired to get up.

“Put some clothes on and come out to the kitchen!” Seth said impatiently before shutting the door.

“Come on Jakey. I’m hungry, and you’ve been sleeping forever,” Skylar mumbled, kissing my forehead.

He shifted to get out of bed and I wrapped my arms around him. “Just a minute. Let me wake up a little,” I whined, cracking my eyes open.

“If you slide your hands down any lower, we’re going to have a problem,” Skylar said, gripping my wrists and raising an eyebrow at me.

I smirked at him. “Last night was fun.”

“Yes, it was. And we can repeat it tonight. But for right now, I’m starving. So get up,” Skylar said, pulling my hands off of his body and kissing me.

We got up and he tossed my boxers and shorts at me. I pulled them on and Skylar did the same. We left his bedroom together and went out to the kitchen.

“Nice sex hair guys,” Seth said as we sat down at the table together.

“It’s called a hair brush,” Emily said, setting down a plate loaded with pancakes. “Have some class, Skylar.”

Skylar pouted and wrapped an arm around my waist. “I have class! And we were quiet. We didn’t keep you and dad up,” he whined.

I chuckled and ran my hands through Skylar’s hair, fixing it for him. He did the same for me and we shared a kiss before beginning to eat breakfast.

Cameron had, like he said, moved a week after I had confronted him. We had found out that his dad’s job required them to move around a lot, and, in his whole life, Cameron had never lived in the same place for longer than eight months. Ever.

I kind of felt bad for him when I heard that, but it did make us understand him a little better. He didn’t care if he messed up people’s lives, because he wouldn’t be around long enough for them to get revenge.

“Now come on! Finish eating so we can swim!” Seth commanded, having shoveled five pancakes into his mouth in about 2 minutes. And he called me the bottomless pit…

Skylar and I finished eating before going to his bedroom and changing into swim trunks. We went out to the pool and jumped into the water together.

“Man, it is a nice day out!” Seth said cheerfully.

“I’m so glad summer’s here,” I said, smiling and swimming over to Skylar.

It had been quite a while since Cameron had left. We had spent a lot of time trying to repair ourselves.

I had to admit, though, that I did think about his words a lot. When I couldn’t sleep, I would curl up against Skylar and allow my mind to wander for a bit. Sometimes I would almost convince myself that Cameron had been right, and that Skylar was only with me out of pity.

I was almost positive that Skylar also thought about Cameron’s words every once in a while. I knew he tried not to, but Cameron had been very, very convincing.

“You alright Jakey?” Skylar asked, wrapping his arms around my waist.

I forced a smile and nodded, kissing his cheek. “I’m fine!” I said joyfully.

Skylar and I had been accepted at the same college, and we were planning to room together. I still worked with Seth, and had saved up quite a bit of money. I had also gotten a second job to help afford college.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hands off my man Skylar!” Seth said, shoving Skylar away from me. He hugged me tightly and growled at Skylar. “My Jakey.”

I rolled my eyes and hugged Seth back, laughing. “You’re an idiot Seth. Are you sure you’re straight?”

Seth nodded proudly. “Straight as can be!”

“Until you see me,” I corrected.

Seth nodded again. “Until I see Jakey.”

Skylar swam over to us and I pulled him into a hug. I wrapped my arms around his and Seth’s necks and smiled at them.

Sometimes, I wondered how long we’d last. To this day, we were still fragile from Cameron. But I loved my boyfriend and my best friend, and I would enjoy every moment I had with them. We had gone to hell and back, and we were still together. And when Cameron’s words began to create doubt in my mind, I clung to that fact.

You live, you lose, you gain. No matter what, you keep moving forward. You hold onto the things you love.

“I love you guys,” I said, kissing Skylar and tightening my hold on both of them.

“We love you too Jakey,” they said at the same time, laughing and hugging me.

And that was all that mattered.
