Chapter 2

"No, we'll run late," matipid kong sagot sa kaniya. She frowned at tumatakbong bumalik saglit sa loob ng bahay nila. I waited for her for a few more minutes at agad naman siyang bumalik after kissing her parents goodbye.

"Thank you, ha," she said as soon as she got inside my car. Siya palang ang babaeng nakakasakay sa kotse ko, and I don't know how I should feel about that.

"Yeah."

"We're not even that close and you came to pick me up. Salamat talaga," nakangiting sabi niya sa akin at hindi na ako umimik.

I don't want her to think that I'm enjoying this, because I'm certainly not. She looks nice and all, but I prefer to be alone.

Tahimik lang akong nag-drive and thankfully, hindi na rin siya nagsalita.

Mav's house is just around the corner and after a few turns, natanaw ko na ito. Large, yet simple. Modern-looking and perfect for throwing parties dahil sa malaking space for the parking.

I glanced at Katniss to check how she's doing at nakitang nakangiti siya. I didn't bother to ask her why. Bumalik nalang ako ng tingin sa kalsada at sa parking lot sa harap ng bahay ni Mav. I could already see all the cars outside his house. Mukhang marami-rami siyang inimbita.

"We're here. I'm gonna go find Ross," sabi ko kay Katniss pagkatigil ko ng kotse. "Have fun," I said as soon as I took my seatbelt off at lumabas na ng kotse.

The moment I stepped out the car, narinig ko na agad 'yong sobrang lakas na tugtog sa loob at parang gusto ko nalang umatras at umuwi na. Lumabas si Katniss pagkatapos ko at tumakbo papunta sa akin.

"Hindi mo 'ko sasamahan?" naguguluhang tanong niya sa akin.

"I don't think I have to do that," simple kong sagot at mukhang nasaktan siya sa sinabi ko. It's not my fault that she started to expect things from me when I'm just being nice to her.

"I'm just... I've never been at parties like this," she said sheepishly at nakaramdam ako ng inis. Then she shouldn't have come if she can't handle it. This isn't a fucking date.

"Ka-year lang naman natin ang mga tao dito. Go find your friends. I'll get going," sabi ko at naglakad na papasok sa bahay ni Mav.

I don't wanna be rude, but I never said I'll be her date tonight. Hell, I didn't even invite her to come with me.

Pumasok ako sa loob ng bahay nila Mav, at mas lalong lumakas 'yong tugtog na narinig ko na agad noong kakalabas ko palang ng kotse. Mav's house is full of glasses. It looks nice, but doesn't really promise a lot of privacy.

"Mmm... fuck yes..." Napatingin ako when I heard a girl moaning. I saw Trixie and one of her boyfriends making out. Binilisan ko nalang 'yong lakad ko para hindi sila maistorbo.

Trixie is that kind of girl. 'Yong tipong nangongolekta ng mga lalaki at kada gabi nasa mga bar. I'm not judging her, I just don't get the way her mind works. I don't think I'll ever do. I wonder what it feels like to date a girl like that. I bet it's... chaotic.

Nakarating na 'ko kung saan nagaganap 'yong party. They've made Mav's house look like a club because they're all dancing and drinking sa napakalakas na tugtog at sobrang dilim na space sa living room ng bahay ni Mav. I feel both blind and deaf.

"Adrien! You came!" hindi makapaniwalang sigaw ni Bryce—isa sa mga ka-year ko—at bigla namang tumakbo si Ross papunta sa'kin para batukan ako.

"Yeah, I had some time," sabi ko habang napapahawak sa batok ko at naghiyawan sila. And before I could add something to say, nakapalibot na silang lahat sa'kin.
