voir, mer || see, sea

Unforgettable summer afternoons spent riding in the passenger seat of your car
Admiring you through your rear view mirror
Watching the golden sun seep through your honey skin.

Sand rustling through your dyed blue locks,
Strands as deep as the sea and as bright as your smile.
Your saucer eyes latched onto mine,
Not once will you dare me to let go.
Lips as red as sour wine,
Haunting my dreams of the deep blue ocean.

When autumn hits
(Because it always does)
we are strangers drowning in the sea of our own lies,
Convincing ourselves those summer afternoons were just well crafted dreams lying in the spine of my journals.

With secret glances and unsaid whispers,
We beg the summer heat to melt us again.
Then and only then will we meet each other,
With the sand, the sun and the sea.

But even in the freezing of months
Where the scent of salt burns my nose
I visit our three month home.

I recall your blue hair,
Which is now dyed to a boring brown
Just the way your girlfriend likes it
I remember your golden skin,
Which is now some off putting pale colours
It's kind of like I was your sunshine
And I attempt to summon our beautiful memories by the salty sea.
But this summer I finally realise,
You and me,
Don't belong anywhere near the sea.
