   "Stay."

Peter looked up from his laptop, glancing over the top of it and letting his breath exit his body in a rush. A girl, around his age, was obviously trying to teach her Labrador obedience - and it obviously wasn't working. Its tongue was lolling out of one side of its mouth and its tail wagged so fast it was a blur, and anytime the girl tried to do something else, it would start lolloping toward her and barking, usually leaving her laughing and falling over. She was pretty, though she kept hiding her face in her tartan scarf to avoid the dog's eager licks. Peter watched for a while, the dialog from the movie he was watching with Ned going in one ear and out the other. They were sat in some field, Peter couldn't remember the name, and had Peter's (or, more specifically, Tony's) laptop open, half on his lap and half on Ned's, and one headphone was in his ear, the other naturally in Ned's. Ned nudged him and he looked at his friend.

"What'cha looking at?" Ned looked up and nodded while the girl tried to push the dog away, still laughing.

   "Is it her?"

"No, God, let's just watch the movie." Peter blushed defensively, crossing his arms across his chest. The second he did, the laptop shifted and fell onto the grass, the headphones coming out and the noises from the sex scene that had the misfortune of being on playing loud and clear as crystal.

Heather looked over, bemused, then hid a smile at the pair of fumbling boys. She turned her attention back to Wonder Woman, her stupid dog, and blocked her from licking her face anymore while she tried not to think about how one of the boys was cute, because he was probably watching PornHub in a PARK.

Decent guys don't do that, and decent guys were the only people she needed to have by choice in her life right now.

   "Stay there, don't move."

Heather just nodded, hands gripping her scarf hard enough for her knuckles to turn white and feel like they were popping out of her skin altogether. She watched Spider-Man web his way back to the robbers, effortlessly managing to get their armoury away and keep them contained. She breathed a slow sigh of relief when the final one was unable to move against the restraints, legs turning to jelly and head spinning with gratefulness. Spider-Man turned back to her and the other people who had the utter DELIGHT of being at the bank when the robbers showed up. All she wanted to was to pick up her new card (she lost her old one, which was just Heather being HEATHER, as per usual), but no, she had to get held at gunpoint. Tuesdays always were her worst days.

"Are you okay, ma'am?" Spider-Man asked and it took Heather a long moment to nod, then held her hands out in front of her to watch them shake.

"Well." She sighed, smiling bitterly, then quickly wrapped her scarf around her neck. She smiled properly.

"Thank you, Spider-Man." She murmured, then quickly leaned forward and kissed his mask-clad cheek. She couldn't be sure, but she thought she heard his breath hitch when she did.

The thought carried her with jaunty, happy steps until she got home, which Peter knew because he followed her.

   Not because he liked HER.

Just because he had to make sure she got home safe.

   Obviously.

   "Stay right... there."

The photographer prompted, flicking her wrist a little at the boy. Peter glanced up at Tony admiringly, and Tony beamed, throwing his arm proudly around Peter's shoulders. Peter turned back to the camera and tried to smile, watching the photographer's own smile become a little more forced. He didn't much mind - he knew he was awkward, especially when the camera was on him, it had stopped mattering. If anything, he had more fun in shoots with Tony now; he had started to see how frustrated he could make the photographers, which was a little mean, but still funny.
