I intertwined our perfectly fit hands together as I used my other free one to stroke his red and purple colored face. I just wanted him to wake up. I wanted to hold him in my arms again. To hear his soft and smooth voice tell me everything will be ok and we can move on to the next step in life. I looked down at the ring I put on my finger and couldn't help but to smile.

A small ray of sunlight shone through the window in Grayson's room right on our hands making the ring shine brightly. I smiled at the thought of Ethan. It'd had been raining since Grayson has been in the hospital and the fact that sunlight peaked through the dark gloom filled sky made me smile.

Me and Ethan used to take secret trips whenever Gray would be to busy with school projects. We'd go to a trail we came upon one day but we never followed the trail. We would cut through the trees a couple miles out from the trail to our spot.

When we got there we would climb the tallest tree which gave us the perfect overlook of Cali ocean. You could see trees some way but then it would drop and show the ocean view we're waves would crash against the rocks. It was a beautiful sight for sure. Whenever Ethan and I wanted to get away or he needed someone to talk to we would come here.

FLASHBACK: 2 years ago
"Ethan! Slow the fuck down!" I yelled out as I tried to keep up with him while he kept ran through the trees.

"Catch me if you can bitch!" He yelled as he kept going. Where the hell is this kid going? I thought I myself. I stopped for a second to try to hear where he was running.

All I heard was silence.

"Ethan?" I said in sort of a whisper as I started to get nervous. I shuffled my feet through the leaves and twigs hearing them break with every step I took.

I heard a branch snap behind me and I whipped my head around to find nothing there. "Ethan stop fucking around." I said nervousness filling my voice. I heard more movement and without thinking my feet took off in another direction. I ran as fast as I could through the trees trying to get away from whatever was chasing me. I came upon an open area and stopped dead in my tracks becoming mesmerized by the sight in front of me.

The beautiful moment was soon ruined as Ethan tackled me to the ground making me scream out.
"You're such an asshole holy fuck Ethan!" I exclaimed as I punched him in the arm. "Y-you should h-ha-have seen your fa-face!" He laughed whilst pointing his finger at me. I began to laugh to as I covered my face with my hands.

We sat in the tall grass as the wind started to blow. I laid back while Ethan did the same. He turned his head slightly to look into my eyes. "So...ho-how have you been with everything?" He asked hesitantly referring about my parents. My eyes started to tear up as I looked back up to the sky not saying anything.

"Emari fuck I'm sorry I shouldn't have said anything." He said with remorse in his tone. "Ethan it's fine I'm just not over it yet, I don't think I ever will be." I said still looking to the sky.

Ethan stood up from the ground and reached his hand out for me to take. I hesitantly took it and he threw me on his back and took off running towards this big tree.

"Ethan what are you doing?." I laughed while he ran. "I wanna climb that tree I bet the view from the top is amazing!" He yelled while carrying me on his back pointing towards the tallest tree. I just laughed at him as we made our way to the tree.

Ethan put me down gently and looked at me with excitement and eagerness filling his eyes. He started climbing and I followed behind him following his steps. My foot suddenly slipped and I yelped but felt a strong hand grab me and pull me to a branch. I grabbed my chest where my heart is feeling the adrenaline rush through my body. "Are you ok?" He asked as he sat next to me. "Yeah thanks E." I said smiling as we continued to climb to the top.

Once we got to the top we were both amazed by the view. Ethan was right it was beautiful.

"It's beautiful." Ethan said low enough for me to hardly hear. "It sure is."

We sat in the tree for hours talking about everything and anything.

"Emari can you promise me something?" Ethan asked with hesitation in his voice.

"What's up E?" I asked quirking my eyebrow upwards.

"If anything ever happens to me, not trying to jinx it by the way, promise me you'll take care of Grayson? I know you guys have been together for a couple years now, but no one else has the control over him like you do. You're like some kind of drug to him that he can't get enough of nor get away from, not saying that as a bad thing but I have never in my 18 years of living seen him treat or act the way he does to you." He said while looking out towards the sun which was now setting.

As the words flowed from his mouth I couldn't help but to blush. "Of course Ethan, you know I will always take care of Gray I love him so much it hurts. And your ass better not go anywhere I'll always need you in my life as well E, you're the only family I have left." I said while turning my gaze back towards him. 

He laughed a bit and held his pinky out towards me signaling he wanted me to pinky promise.

I giggled at his gesture of keeping a promise and held mine out as well.

"Oh and you'll always be like a little sister to me Emari, I already consider you apart of the family even though you guys aren't married yet."

I gave him a hug and continued holding our pinky's together.

"Always E."

I smiled back to the memory me and Ethan shared. We were done with high school and all about to leave to go to college. Who knew this is where we would be today.

I found myself sobbing while Grayson's blanket was soaked from my tears. I missed my best friend so fucking much. My heart was aching and beating ferociously. I cried and cried until I couldn't any more.

"You promised you wouldn't leave me Ethan." I whispered as I continued to sob. I buried my face into the blanket to muffle my cries.  

I heard a noise coming from Grayson's monitor as soon as the words left my mouth. My head shot up as I realized what was happening.

His heart was no longer beating while mine was being torn from my chest and being stomped on the cold dark earth.
