Chapter 19: She Went to Princeton, I Went to Juvie

Start from the beginning

Without another word from her, she stuffed what looked like a shirt into my hands and quickly stormed off. I couldn't help but to laugh at her display, though. Was I mean? Probably. Did she deserve it? Maybe not. Was it fun? Oh hell yeah.

"Who was at the door?" I then heard Vic ask as he came down from the stairs, in really nothing more than some tracksuit pants, still rubbing a towel through his hair to dry it.

I stared at him momentarily. The sight of him always made me zone out a little. But his after-shower look just had my brain going all mushy. He always noticed, though. I guess the drool made it obvious. So he repeated the question and finally got me out of my trance.

"Oh your fiancée just popped by bearing gifts." I said, holding the red and white shirt out towards him.

"Ex fiancée." He reminded me firmly, although he knew it was a joke. "What is it anyways?" I just shrugged as he started unfolding it, a smile slowly appearing onto his face. "Ah, it's my old high school soccer jersey."

I snorted a little. "You played soccer, really?"

"Hell yeah, and I was good at it. Especially trick shots."

I rolled my eyes in amusement. The moment I thought Vic could not get any dorkier, he totally did. But I liked it. It was kinda cute. And kinda sexy. And, wait a minute. . .

"Hold on, did you give your fiancée that jersey back in high school?" I then asked.

"Ex fiancée." Vic grumbled lowly. "But yes, I did."

It was only then that it actually dawned on me. Vic and this girl had been together for a long time. They had a history together. "So that means you two were together for like- that's like- fuck I don't even know how many years, I'm shit at math."

Vic chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "We were together for almost sixteen years, yeah."

"Wow." I breathed, slightly in shock by the new information. "So like. . . you've been together for that long, but one day you just woke up and were like nah this ain't it? And then there was me, of all people?"

He threw the jersey over his shoulder and grinned as he wrapped his arms around my waist. "Yep, and then there was you."

"You, my friend, are officially insane." I then murmured, poking his nose repeatedly after every single word I spoke. He just chuckled and moved his head so he could kiss the tip of my finger the last time I was about to poke him.

"Speaking of high school. . ." He then started; swaying us left and right a little as he held onto my waist. "I remember how you said that you never got to finish it, and I wondered why, so I contacted your old high school. Which was funny, because that's my old high school too and I had no idea it still existed." He rambled on for a moment.

I gave him a bit of a deadpanned look. "And your point is?" I asked suspiciously.

"Well, my point is that you weren't as tough and rebellious in your high school years as you claim to be, missy. Because the only reason you didn't finish high school is because you didn't show up for your bible studies exam. All your other grades were pretty much amazing."

I chuckled darkly as I rolled my eyes. "Just because I had good grades didn't mean I wasn't a piece of shit. But what are you trying to get at, Fuentes?"

He then pulled me closer to him and grinned as he began to lather my face and neck with kisses. "What I'm. . getting at. . is that I. . arranged. . for you. . to do. . that exam. . and if. . you pass. . you'll get. . your diploma." He spoke, each bit in between kisses.

I instantly pushed myself out of his arms and stepped back. "You did what?!" I snapped at him. Vic's eyebrows furrowed as he took a step towards me, but I only backed away further in response. "Why would you do that?" I asked incredulously. "That's just embarrassing and fucking degrading, Vic."

"No, Max, it's not. I'm just trying to help you." He assured me, once again stepping closer. And this time I let him, but only because I knew that the wall was only a foot or two behind me at that point. "It's really not a big deal. They told me Father Urie still gives that class. He was my teacher too back then. I know that little piece of paper means something to you, so I just wanted to help. I'll help you study too."

He looked so sincere when he said it. I knew he was trying to help. I just felt stupid, that's all. Sometimes I hated being a low class piece of trash with no education. I knew it didn't matter to Vic what I was or what I wasn't, but it bothered me. Which was even more stupid, because before him I was never bothered about any of that. But here he was, trying to help. . .

"Alright, fine. I'll do the god damn exam." I mumbled with a groan.

Vic smiled brightly and pressed his lips to mine. "Trust me, you won't regret this. And you're going to ace this thing, I'll make sure of it." He said after he pulled away.

I rolled my eyes but I couldn't help but to smile at his enthusiasm about the whole thing. Damnit, he was such a sweet guy. There was no way in hell I even deserved anyone like him.
