For my best friend Rachel who I shared many conversations with on our bus trips to and from school about gossip, boys, our favorite tv shows and books. You're truely wonderful! : )

In a city that never sleeps lies the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s Elite. Rumours, secrets and betrayals line the pavements of Park Avenue and Times Square and alone across the bridge lies the lives of Brooklyn folk. The tale of two cities comes colliding together in a series of raptures of rumours, secrets and forbidden love.

Chapter one:

B is for Brooklyn when you were wishing you were elsewhere.

The sidewalk lay covered in autumn leaves as Tess Howard-Williams ran down 5th Avenue. She was running late as she ran towards Alexandra Elliot Prep, if she didn’t make it to the interview in 2mintutes she could basically kiss the Alexandra Elliot scholarship good bye.

But really how was Tess meant to know the subway would be doing maintence practically this day; or that it was going to delay the Brooklyn line by 30mintutes.

She was so screwed.

Out of breath Tess to stood outside of the Headmistress’s office, she couldn’t help but notice the pictures of passed head Deans.

Alexandra Elliot was a prep school filled with prestige and history. It was no wonder it was a leading New York City school, and it was no wonder Tess Howard-Williams had her heart of getting that scholarship and attending here.

The door creaked open and a plump greying woman directed a young blonde girl out. Tess couldn’t help but notice the Dolce hand bag the girl carried.

“Thank you for coming Miss. Dickens.” Said the woman slowly turning her attention to Tess, “I guess you were my 1:30pm appointment?” she raised an eyebrow and gestured her hand for Tess to enter.

The woman continued to direct Tess by suggesting her to sit in a vintage brown leather chair opposite the desk. “You must be Teresa Howard-Williams, I am Headmistress Hefferton!”

“Please to meet you Headmistress Hefferton!” said Tess extending her arm to shake the Headmistress’s hand. However Headmistress Hefferton frankly ignored its extension, she however looked dully amused at the interview.

Seriously what was a girl from Brooklyn evening doing on the Upper East Side...?

“Punctuality is really a lesson we should all learn Miss. Howard-Williams!” She declared, finally sifting through some papers on her desk. Was this woman really going to give a tardy notice to a girl who wasn’t even a student there yet?

“The subway system from here to Brooklyn was delayed by thirty minutes” chimed Tess in her defence.

“Your tardiness seriously questions my review are you cut to be a student of Alexandra Elliot” she looked critically at Tess. “Do you think you have the potential to be a student here?”

Did Tess Howard-Williams really have to think this answer over, although she had been thinking it since 8th grade?

“I think this school could benefit me not only in my academics, but I can also put back into the school with my achievements I would make as a student here!”

Is it just me or did that sound rather nerdy?

“You have excellent references, credentials and school groups to be a student here. I just question what you will do come Senior year when the scholarship has run out, I no doubt believe you know the scholarship is only offered to Sophomores for two years full fair paid by the school’s board?”

“Yes, and I have been saving my wages and extra cash since 8th grade!”

No wonder she didn’t have a fashion sense, it seems Brooklyn Girl had been saving her money for another cause. But any Girl knows to survive the Upper East Side you need a great fashion sense, an Amex card and some Marc Jacobs. Sounds like Brooklyn Girl is going to be in for a good surprise, that’s if she can even make it onto The Upper East Side scene.

“Well like all applicants you will be discussed at the next board meeting, thank you for taking the time to make it for this interview.” Immediately Headmistress Hefferton was showing her out.

As Tess made her way down the hall way out to the main exit, she walked dazedly taking everything in. She felt it was apparent she hadn’t made the best impression, possibly the worst in her life so far.

I guess it was this apprehension things might not go her way that she ran into a tallish blonde girl without even noticing. “I am so sorry...!” began Tess, but it was apparent blonde girl didn’t even care to notice Tess even existed. Must be the fashion sense difference or something...?

Things were looking dull for Brooklyn Girl, maybe this was the last time she would pass through Alexandra Elliot’s halls. But if you believe in a little thing called fate, you would know anything is possible. And somehow I can sense seeing Brooklyn Girl a little more.
