I watch them from a distance of about fifty yards. None of them are working well together at all. Ackerman is trying to ignore everything anyone tells her, Jaeger is trying to get everyone to do what he wants, Arlert is hanging there trying to get everyone to listen to him, Kerstien is arguing with Jaeger, and Guiin is staying in one place looking awkward like she doesn't know what to do.
I know I have to be patient. They have to get to know each other. Ackerman, Arlert, Kerstien, and Jaeger already know and trust one another, but Guiin is the strange one no one knows. This is one reason I regret placing her in my squad. Another reason is that she's an amateur. She did come back alive from an expedition. She does have good skills. She gives respect to whoever it is due. But she doesn't know them very well.
Without any hesitation, I melt into the trees and race back. Let them find their own way home.
