Poem #60

My heart was shattered, my world turned dark,
When I found out my girlfriend had a secret spark,
A spark with a guy she met online,
Who made her laugh and her heart entwine.

They had sexual conversations, my heart in a knot,
But she just laughed and said it was all for naught,
She claimed he was just a friend, nothing more,
But my gut told me there was something more in store.

I couldn't believe it, my love so pure,
Had been tempted by someone else's lure,
I tried to confront her, to make her see,
But she brushed it off, saying I was being too insecure.

I couldn't let her go, I couldn't bear the thought,
Of her with someone else, my heart distraught,
I still loved her, despite her betrayal,
But my mind was filled with doubts and denial.

I questioned myself, was I not enough,
Did she need someone else to make her feel tough,
But deep down I knew, it wasn't my fault,
She had made a choice, and it was her own vault.

I tried to forgive, to move on and forget,
But the pain in my heart just wouldn't let,
I couldn't trust her, no matter how hard I tried,
My love for her, slowly started to subside.
